Have you googled ANYTHING? This would have to be one of the most extensively discussed RB26 transplant related topics on the entire internet.

But, to pander to your needs.....yes. You can do all of that.

Note that the front diff is in the engine's sump, so to get rid of it all you need is to obtain or make a suitable sump (ie, RB25 sumps may suit depending on the crossmember location). Or you can hack up and weld up the RB26 sump.

Note also that the transfer case is in the back end of the gearbox and you won't want to be using the RB26's gearbox. You'd be better off using an RB26 box. That's RWD original. Note also that these boxes are much bigger than what will easily fit into the Torana's tunnel, so you're going to need to hack up the car.

But the logic of the transplant escapes me. 15-20 years ago, when it was cool to transplant late model techno motors into old chassis, this might have made sense. But these days I would think that a rock'n'roll 202 worked up in the old style with dirty great carbs on E85 would make it more interesting. Or a turbo 202 using a nice, modern, efficient turbo (and black 202 EFI manifold and modern EFI), or some variation on those themes. Yes, they've all been done before, but they retain some of the essential nature of the car, which is that it is 40+ years old. I'd even consider a plain Jane RB30 to be a sensible swap (even if it's not that far away from an RB26) because at least you can say it's a Holden motor, and the engines make good power and torque. And that is the root of the problem and the cause of my main objection to an RB26 here. An LJ is not a platform for shovelling massive amounts of power and torque into. They did well with 240 engine HP in the Bathurst days. But you can make double that on an RB26 without even breaking a sweat. And if you did, in an LJ, it would be a miserable thing to drive, unless you just set it up for drags.

Just my 2c.

    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
