Just got my 2002 AR-X and found out that the stock integrated head unit is nearing the end of it's life. I thought I'd go with iPod extension but there seems to be problem with the amplifier (or something) since it's making noises that makes your ears bleed even when it's turned off.

This being first M35 in the country, there's not much help available here in Finland. It seems that there are few different stereo / climate control options with all different fascias. Attached is picture of my head unit / climate control. Is there any reasonably easy and straightforward way to replace the original with aftermarket double din unit? Will climate controls and trip computer etc. in the screen work if the head unit is replaced?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the tip, didn't realize they were so identical.

If anyone else is wondering where to get new fascia, this is what I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130964418196?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Aircon buttons look kinda cheap, but i hope i can use originals.

I would be interested to see how this turns out. Post your results once complete please!

Sure thing!

CD changer FO'd on me yesterday so I'll be doing this immediately when the new fascia arrives. Decided to go with 1-din head unit, let's see how it turns out.

Replaced mine about 3 months ago when it took out the air con -

I can not reuse original buttons.

search the other threads - I also got a wiring kit ie Nissan to JVC so you dont have to cut wires

just have to massage it into place - not much room in the back.

When I replaced the bose in my arx I had to buy an ac controller for a v/g35 from the usa as the bose system has everything built in to one big circuit board.

I also bought adaptor boxes to get a new head unit to work with the Bose amps and speakers and also a converter box to get the steering wheel controls to work with the new stereo.

I modified the facia by cutting out the bose panel so I had a double din sized hole and installed the new stereo with a storage bin below it.

Took a quite long time to get this done, but attached is the result using eBay center console linked earlier in this topic. Fit & finish is ok, not perfect but definitely ok. Aircon buttons look cheap but work with no problems. They look better in dark, backlight color is exact match with the originals. Pop-up screen is REALLY tight fit, it needs some help to get it up. Not cheap, not easy to install and not perfect fit but as there are no options available this what we have to put up with. Does everything promised, so problem there.

if you wanted a better finish you could have got the original double din off Yahoo. but it would have cost more. and it takes time, but being a genuine Nissan part, its the right colour, right fit. and wrong price :(
now just gotta find the bose adapter

So, the screen doesn't pop up very well from the hole? Would that be solved by shaving some of the plastic off?

It's a shame the manufacturer decided to go cheap with the buttons.. this is a potential deal breaker.

Yes, the screen won't come up without help. I suppose it could be solved with shaving some plastic off, but I don't think it is big enough problem that I would bother to take it out. I never put the screen down anyway.

Buttons are shame indeed but there just is no way the originals could have been used.

nokonzok I found that mine had issues coming up if the 4 big screws in the back of screen were over tightened. once I loosened It a little it runs smooth as. press the button and it comes up by itself. just an idea...

    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
    • Will this fit? but they are staggered set - RAYS 57DR SEMI GLOSS BLACK 18x8.5 +37 | 18x9.5 +38 5-114.3 STAGGERED SET   or If no go could just get a set 4's wheels of 18x8.5 +37 5-114.3 - would i run 8.5's 235s up front n 245's at the back if I do?   Thanks.
    • Put a clamp on your return line. I have a feeling it's sucking air, and introducing bubbles to your fuel. With a lot of fuel, less problematic. I'd honestly be redoing all the lines in the tank and clamps on everything.   Also, you've given two different answers to the same question: Asked if being followed by the police you could get down to use the whole tank, you said yes you could, so long as you keep off boost. However, you then followed this up that free revving, it would also cause the issues. I'm doubting free revving is enough to make any noticeable boost on what is likely a decent sized turbo.   So now I have to ask, can you actually drive it lightly and use all the fuel, or does it break up even free revving? Also, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Can you hear the pump change noise at all when you're having this issue?
