Hey guys, been thinking about this for a while now.

Wanna move to W.A.
I need a job, and a place to stay short term til' I can find my own place.

I was wondering what area's would be the best to find a Tyre Fitting job, and relatively cheap rent - but not in a shitty area. lol.
I'm not looking for my own place, looking for a share house, etc.

And when I get over there I'm gonna start saving again for another Skyline.
Another R32 (more than likely.. ahahaha), this time - legally Turbo.

Got nothing over here in Sydney anymore, so it only makes sense to move now.

Start reading the Saturday West Australian newspaper to kick off your job hunt make some phone calls, if you haven't already. Check out job prospects before moving because things have been slowing down over here these last few months. Rental property prices are not in this category however.

All the best,

GW

Yeah I am talking the Perth area.

Just hunting for a permanent Tyre Fitting job, then eventually move to Adult apprenticeship.
I am looking, found a few, but just don't know the areas. I wont have a car when I move over there, and will have to save up a bit for one while over here, so I need somewhere close to work.
lol.

So if anyone knows any Workshops looking for a Tyre fitter, help would be nice.

It has nothing to do with Asian workers taking Aussie jobs mate. There is a massive skills shortage in Western Australia. I work in the mining game myself and you just can't find people. People are being offered stupid money because there are so many options. The reason companies have to source people from overseas is not to save cost, but rather to fill the positions they need filling. The other issue is due to all the options, people work somewhere for three months and then go to a different company. Training people becomes expensive as the turn over of staff is ridiculous. If you bring people from overseas, they are generally on a contract so they can't leave as easily meaning you are not constantly retraining. Work is so easy to come by here that I have not applied for a single job since graduating. They have all come to me.

Something else to keep in mind, this forum has many Asians on it, so probably not the best place to say this sort of thing ;)

+ 1 on the reply above, but thought there was a bit of a downtown in the mining sector (?) The company I work for has a labor hire division with a glut of ex mine site guys who have been retrenched from some of the big players like rio tinto

Yeah.. I thought mining was going downhill?

I have nothing against asians.
But everything I see points to them hiring people because they can pay them less...
LOL.

But ehy, a mining job would be real nice.
But I need a Cert 2 in tyre fitting to get into the job I want.

And I need a Tyre fitting job to be able to complete my Cert II. :-\

The big issue that occurred due to the mining boom was that the BHP's, Rio Tinto's etc were throwing jobs at people with over the top salaries. Now that the mining has slowed for them, they have realised that they have more people than they ever needed, but during the boom, this wasn't noticed. If you go work on one of these sites, you will see there are three men for every one man job. They have then decided that they need to cull a lot of people to streamline their business and this resulted in a lot of people without work. Their are, however, still a lot of projects going on. Even during the down turn we have been hiring more people from Australia and Overseas. The big issue now is, people who have come from the BHP's, Rio Tinto's etc have a lifestyle that requires the crazy high salary, so that is what they ask for. Other companies can't afford that, so they give the job to someone else.

To give you an idea, I got offered a job by a mining company when I was one year out of university. The salary on offer was more than double what I was earning, but I realised it wasn't sustainable. If I took the job, it would have been great, but I would have been the first on the chopping block if times changed. This was quite a few years ago now and I'm glad I made the decision I did.

That was a small part of the problem. The problem in general is a combination of about 5 different factors, mineral price, AUD, salaries, budgets etc. These companies are by no means broke. They simply are too afraid to make any big changes atm with the market so unstable which has confused/concerned a lot of people. Once some companies get back to "normal" and start throwing cash around on projects/maintenance, the rest will follow. I see this everyday as I live in the Goldfields and I quote projects/tenders. This happens almost yearly however, you don't hear about it until hundreds of people start getting made redundant. My predictions are the start of December things will start to improve dramatically within the mining game.

Lots of little mines around the Goldfields have closed over the last few months simply because of the gold price/AUD vs what it costs them to produce an ounce. The margins were too small. These were the mines that "were" making a killing 18 months ago.

I wouldn't personally be making a move interstate at this current time. If I was to move from East to West it would have to be for some serious $$$ and some serious certainty. As someone said above, WA has been smashed by every inexperienced bloke that has a qualification in something (foreign and domestic). I get guys calling me almost daily looking for work who can barely speak English or can not pass a drug test! I got offered a job 2 months ago to move from Kalgoorlie to Perth and be on slightly more money still including a company vehicle but I turned it down. It's just not the right time to be making such moves is all

Go do an apprenticeship locally then move once your a tradesman. If I could go back I would have done a sparkie app. for sure! Instead I'm OHS

No one likes the safety bloke.

Bottom line is get some skills. Sparky skills are pretty handy to have, mostly instrument as electrical alone doesnt cut it so much anymore. Dual ticket is better.

I see all your points.
But there is no way in hell I am staying here in NSW.

Hassled every day by cops for my car, lose a job here, there's NO ONE hiring in my field at the moment, so I'm stuck on shitty shifts.

That, and because I'm dumb, and slightly insane.
I like instability.
I intentionally throw my life into the blender.

I wanna move to W.A to get away from things, and get TO things.
I'm not looking for a job in the mines, pretty much any long term apprenticeship.
I'm a solid worker, I finally want a stable job now that I've got rid of my debts, and I want to be able to do stuff that makes me happy.

like get on boost...
lol.
I will take any apprenticeship.
Plumber, sparky, mechanic, panel beater, spray painter.
They are all a means to an end, and even if the job isn't super entertaining, at least I can say that finally, I don't give a shit.
I just wanna be able to drive a car that wont cause my head to explode.

Here in NSW, I cannot drive anything nice because of the restrictions.
I don't speed.
I just like the sound of a 'gate, a shifter and a bit of spool while I get to the limit.
That's all I want, but in NSW I can't have that.

That and the Potato-Camera test is stupid for greens.

So yes I am trying to make a shortcut by taking the long way.
But it's because my DOCTOR said it would be good for me.
(Yes, I'm DEAD serious about that, especially after the cancer.)

Officially - My Specialist lives in W.A.
Which is the main reason I need to/Should move back there.

Un-Officially - I like boost.

I have genuine reasons to move.
I also have non genuine reasons.
Hope you guys understand that I am not doing it just to shortcut my P plate restrictions.

Your scaring me

lol...

I had cancer, which is why I so hastily sold the '32 GTR I was gonna fix.

And now my Specialist wants to be able to keep closer tabs on me instead of me flying over every month.

So yeah.

The fact I can drive anything on P's is just a bonus.

Oh my apologies. Good to see your recovering/recovered!

All the best with your GTR.

Which I no longer have...

haha.

I sold it to pay for the treatments.

But the doc wants to keep tabs on me for another 12 months or so.

And it would just be easier if I moved back to W.A.

I only moved to NSW to help a family member out, who ended up f***ing me over.

So now I'm stuck here.

    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
