hey mate what is the capacity of the motor ?

on a 2,6 you will want garret 2860-9 for good near factoryresponse and up to 350 kws

2860-5s for anything more but you will suffer from more lag

those tomeis arnt really a great turbo to be honest imo

Are you planning on building an engine?

There was a result a few years ago with the smaller set of the tomei turbos. Iirc, 23 ish psi at 5900 rpm. How much down low torque are you willing to give up?

If you jump on the Tomei site, you'll see that the comparison graph that the use to display the curves of these turbos are actually on a 2.8 L engine. Hardly a good comparison.

There are much better options out there. Every result I have seen with the new tomei things with their pretty blue actuators have been very ordinary.

Those tomei turbos are rubbish! got a mate with 1 on an evo 9 (not really the same comparison I know) but the power delivery is very dull to say the least and my evo 9 with the stock turbo feels ALOT punchier and fun to drive. Id say a well setup set of -9's feel really good on the street as ive done a few k's in my dads car with the 9's :)

The -9's are garrett 2860 -9 which are the HKS Gt-ss equivalent without the price tag. The 9's on E85 really are as good as you will get on a 2.6L unless you go single they are the perfect balance of response and power for the street :)

Mate, you're not giving us anything to work with here.

You basically have a standard car and wanting to put 500 rwkw worth of turbos on it.

Realistically, 20k ain't gonna get close to doing a build PROPERLY like that.

What will you use the car for?

Will you build an engine. If so, how big?

How much are you willing to spend on the head?

Fuel?

Do you mind it being a pig below 5 grand?

Chucking turbos at a setup and hoping for the best will end in very poor results.

this guy, he knows!!! lol

seriously bro if you wanna keep it to a decent dollar figure aim for 300-350rwkw mark.. it gets damn expensive anywhere up from there

Sorry to budge in like this but what do you mean when you say "-5s or -9s" is this the HP rating?

-9 results range from 320-360 rwkw

-5 results range from 350 - 400 rwkw generally.

I will mainly use the car as a weekenda and do all the hill climb events in it.

I don't want to open the engine at this stage.

I just a pair of bolt ons for now would give me that little extra power.

I'm at 245awkw if I can get it to 350 I would b happy for now any suggestions?

-9's will get there IF the setup is well thought out. IE not a peanut exhaust with a silly restrictor on there for example.

-5's will make it easier due to being a tad bigger, but not without a penalty.

If it were me, I'd go -9's and try make the setup as efficient as possible. Using the car for hillclimbs, it'll be faster with the smaller turbos on the standard engine. -5's are too big on a 2.6 IMO.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
