Hey there guys,

I love cars, and i really enjoy watching drifting. Over the past couple of years i've started paying a lot more attention to different sorts of cars,

but all through that the r32 (4 door) skyline has been my favourite car!

a bit about me. I drive a toyota levin, and have done since i got my licence, i also work at the supermarket so money is a bit tight.

i love the r32. and living in NZ it's quite a common car to see which makes me always jealous.

My dad is really hardup about what cars i should buy because he loved cars when he was younger and he knows what's good and shit.

anyways so i want to buy an r32, but i know most of the manual ones would have been thrashed to bits by the local teens, which is when i started noticing auto ones. (which look like they've been driven by a grandma there whole life and look perfect condition).

I'm not after power, i just want an awesome looking and sounding r32. but all of the autos around my area are all rb20e's and rb20de's which from what i hear are pretty damn slow.

but anyways long story short, being a student and working at the supermarket with low income. Would an auto r32 rb20e or rb20de be an alright car? what would it be like on gas, are they terribly slow? or is it just a waste of money? how shit are the auto ones? (remember i'm not after power, as long as it looks the same as you guys with your 26's 25's and 20 dets ill be happy)

my levin currently get 500 - 550kms out of a 40L tank,

so is it a bad idea for me to be upgrading to a slow gas guzzler if i dont have alot of money?

Sorry about the bad formatting and english.. i was never very good at writing... haha

peace cheers!

Kinda in the same boat..

Love cars of all kinds but the 32 always stood out to me..

So I bought one in December last year, I payed way too much, I wasn't mechanically minded and did NOT know what to look for.. I am paying for that at the moment..

Still don't regret buying it though, mines a turbo manual and for the week that I drove it, I fell in-love. :)

Just make sure you bring your dad or someone who has a bit of knowledge with skylines before buying one..

Good luck mate.

Yeah i'm terrible when it comes to cars, all i know how to do is change the oil and filter -.- much to learn!

anyways has anyone ever driven/had an auto Non turb skyline? what are they like on gas and performance?

Also the first turbo car I have ever driven..

I am not an idiot on the road but WOW a turbo really made me want to do so, sorry to say. :P

BUT I didn't!..

Sorry back to topic and shutup about myself.. I have been in an auto r32 with an rb25de an it was really gutless IMO (compared to a turbo....) and sounded sooo droney.. :(

I used to get around 600km per tank (so around 10L/100km or better) from my standard (apart from R34 turbo) R32 GTS-t. Don't even bother with an N/A auto. Just be patient and look for a good condition Type-M.

I bought my car as an M-spec, Type-M whatever you want to call it..

But I noticed that my brakes are 2pot front & 1pot rear (I could have it wrong way around.. Don't know brakes) :/

Regarding 32GTR rear guards, pun intended... :)

Is it the wank-factor to have a gtst that looks exactly like a GTR? Lol..

All turbo Skylines (R32-34) have 4pot front 2pot rear. You're seeing one side of the brakes lol.

Yes it is IMO, buy a GT-R! :P

I had an N/a R32 (non turbo). best daily i have ever owned. I miss it like hell. They are not fast at all. However i did still used to drift mine. Great looking, reliable car. Highly recommend. And if you have a manual license get a manual. They have all been thrashed doesn't matter if its an auto or a manual. So get the one thats fun to drive.

GT-R don't recommend unless you have the budget to own two. if you can't afford two you can't afford one.

And yes owning a gts-t to look like a gtr is wank factor.

Edit: i might add i made it from adelaide to Canberra on 1 tank of fuel in my N/A.

Oh sweet.. Lmao

Was thinking I have shitty like n/a brakes haha..

Had a feeling your labelled as a toss going for the GTR look in a gtst..

I was going to save up and buy a gtr but I am way too impatient and I'm kicking myself for it now :P but all is well.

Can't wait till I get my opens next month!

And OP put some pics of your skyline WHEN you buy it :)

The Type M bodykit is plenty. You can also get wider after market guards so there are alternatives of the GT-R look.

If you are restricted to non-turbo, I reckon the RB20DE NEO would be a nice drop-in engine (if you can find one).

I'm not restricted to a non-turbo, but i'm thinking it would make insurance cheaper and i'd be less likely to floor it.

I'm looking for manual or auto one, just trying to find a great condition one.

although i am a bit afraid of getting an r32 now :P, everyday on facebook for the town i live in i see people saying "Anyone seen my skyline, it got stolen today".. It seems there are a lot of theives targeting skylines and i'd hate to spend money on one only to lose it :P

But yeah! i will post pics as soon as i get one. I was going to buy this really good condition one but it was sold before i got a chance to look at it, so i'm just going to wait a few more weeks til a get a bit more cash :)

I was surprised how cheap my insurance was (Premium)

JustCar skyline 32 gtst coupe manual.

$866 a year.. BUT $1800+ for my excess. So If I crash or get hit.. Hopefully it's a decent hit.

It's insured for $11,800 when I ask for $12,000 :)

Also the reason i want a non turbo is cause the actual car is cheaper!

I have 3.5k cash and a car worth 4-5k, and i only really want to spend 3 - 5k on a skyline and a non turbo fits into that range.. you can get a turbo one for that cheap but they are shitters.

But yeah i would get a gtst if i could but for a decent condition one its like 7-8k

Yeah true... I payed $9500 for mine :/ LOL

    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
