Okay looking like i will be relocating to Gladstone so wondering if anyone on here might be local and/ or able to give some info on the place?

Any local workshops any good, dyno's? Are cops and defect checks likely? My thing isnt too over the top but has pods Trust intake piping etc. so doesnt exactly look stock lol.

I dunno any info welcome, any motor sport events, hill climbs or anything in the area, good windy hills roads or anything???

Any heads up MUCH appreciated!

no real workshops mate or dyno joints - is 2 dyno joints if you want to do a AFR check or similar, however wouldnt trust with your import seems mainly for the v8 crowd. better off taking it to brisbane for either ERD or mercury motorsports to work on.

beneraby drag strip isnt too far away (30min)

few imports around, never heard of any real meets or similar going on.

as for roads around gladstone? all the roads where in pretty bad shape when i was there i.e. pot holed to f**k from the flooding etc. but the road between brissie and gladstone i gave it some shit on my way up.

good road between barney point and parsons point to drop skids lol

i would just go on random drives with the girlfriend either north or south grab some fish and chips etc, nothing to great to report on

if you are ever in brisbane give Mt Nebo a crack, good fun that

Had pretty well figured this was likely to be the case might go with the plan to buy a car trailer and tow it to all the Queensland tracks lol

Am i likely to get harassed for aftermarket seats? Carbon bonnet and the like? in either Gladstone or Brissy etc?

cheers for the heads up about beneraby though!

Great advice however, ERD doesn't exist anymore and the majority of members wouldn't use Mercury from past experience. There are other great tuners around such as Sean at EFI and Richard at All Star - both in Brisbane.

i did have questionable experience with mercury, however Trent has looked after me recently strangley enough when i am now back in perth so free plug.

shame about ERD he seemed like a legit guy - i left queensland actually around 18months ago

Yes you will get hassled by the cops if your driving around at the wrong times. Especially when the Brisbane group, who travel up and down the coast, are in town.

They know what to look for and what is illegal these days.

Mopower is good for dyno work. Cops can be aszholes if you blatantly make a cnut of yourself. We regularly drive to the dam or yepoon. Plenty of things to see if you know where to look. Benaraby has an off street meet every month on friday nights.

Gladstone is V8 town, some big Hp utes around.

What work are you planning on?

Rent is pretty sky high unless you're scoring it in your package.

It's a big money town and everything is priced accordingly.

Unless you're earning top coin, you could end up living in Miriamvale or Bororen and commuting.

A bit like a gold rush town must have been back in the day.

Where else will you see traffic jambs at 2 in the morning, 1500 workers swapping over at the ferry terminals, girls handing out business cards, coffee and pie vans making a fortune......

Lol missed that 2am rush on my site visit lol looking at the alumina refinery and as far as housing it's actually a bit better than Darwin I reckon so no huge shock

Forgot to look when in town is 98 octane easily available?

Or even e85 :-)

Interesting you say that. I have about 10 years experience in 800+ton cranes and was knocked back on 3 occasions because I was locally based. If I was based in Brisbane I would have had the jobs. Was odd hearing in the interview that I had perfect references, and was wanted but I had to FIFO and stay in a camp.

    • Hey crew, Failed my WOF cause of a lower control arm, and I've decided to hit both arms, and also the compression rods at the same time(seems they're gonna be the most likely upcoming failure points from some discussions with the lads over on the G35 reddit). I've looking at these form Z1:  https://www.z1motorsports.com/front-suspension/hayaku-automotive/hayaku-g35-front-compression-rod-p-40716.html https://www.z1motorsports.com/front-suspension/hayaku-automotive/hayaku-g35-front-lower-control-arm-p-40674.html I asked Z1 if they'd work as it's the same platform, just RHD vs LHD. I basically got told "Lol dunno". Specifically they aren't aware of any difference but can't guarantee fitment as they haven't done it on a 350GT. So guess I'm asking is if there is any issues with using 2005 G35 coupe suspension parts on a 2005 350GT coupe? Orginally I thought it could be something in the way of the arms that each control arm is designed to be positioned around, but that'd be an engineering nightmare for Nissan needing two different shaped control arms 😅
    • ^ This. The mode door actuator is a common failure, as is the actuator and/or the actual valve for the coolant flow control valve. I also don't know how available the mode door actuator is these days. I've been meaning to look into it and get one from wherever is possible, to keep in the shed for the rainy day when mine eventually fails. Anyway, the advice to you is to search the usual NOS part supply places, or even just go to Nissan and see what they list.
    • Have you got a pic of the actuator? My guess is that unit has failed internally and was flopping around, so the previous engineer who owned it forced it to be fully open to cold air (blocking the heater core path). As far as you can tell, is anything else wrong in the system? Likely you just need a new actuator (not sure how available they are) and then "installation is the reverse of disassembly"
    • I'm happy with the Lsailt unit that I put in, it puts full Android on the top screen so you can run whatever Nav and other Apps you want, while still existing inside the factory functionality like automatic reverse cams, audio input switching, retains factory bluetooth etc. Not cheap and the install was moderate (not simple, not hard) Yours is a V36 not V37 though right?
    • Yeap, all the NC's that I originally looked at that had a hard top were PRHT, which makes the roof line look horrible, hence why I said nope to them My only caveat for another MX5 was it needed to have a hard top, and initially I didn't think you could get a detachable hard top for the NC,  like my NB had Again, a big thanks to Matty for helping me source the detachable hard top for my little girl, they are as rare as hens teeth in Australia, and the few people who have them, keep them Also to Greg, for initially pointing me in the NC direction NC PRHT 🤢🤮 Not mine (I really should take more photos of my car), but a NC with the detachable hard top 😁 To me, the difference in how the detachable hard top roof line looks, and how it actually follows the bodies lines, like they do on NA's and NB's, is chalk and cheese compared to the bulbous looking PRHT
