I have a project 1991 hcr32 4 door that needs a ecu and engine bay loom.

I've purchased a r32 manual gts-t ecu and engine wiring harness.

Went down to the car today to start nutting it out and making sure it's going to work when i ran into this problem..

After connecting every connector i'm left with the 2 green plugs from the engine loom, and a long white plug from the body side of the loom (the one i'm pointing to in the images)..

Anyone have any idea's?

What the plugs are?

What they do?

I must be missing something obvious?

Thanks, i've also searched and looked at images of loom's on google..

On mine I had a spoiler controller here. If you do not have that option then it will be that plug and 5-6 others around the headlights . It should be on the right side.

Not sure if it has a spoiler controller. What do you mean it will be that plug and 5-6 others around the headlights? What about the 5-6 other plugs?

I will have more of a look on the right side, already had a quick squizz. It's also not in the rest of my body loom that goes to the headlights etc..

They should be plugs that go into the body loom which are above the passengers side footwell just up from where the ecu is bolted in

I've been told the green one's are relay's. Easy done.

The white one though is still a mystery. It's on the body loom. What i'm trying to say is the engine bay loom has no plug for this!

The loom you have mustve been modded or cut then

Just checked a spare engine loom that I have and it has the white plug just like yours near the relays and it has the body loom plug still attached with an orange wire and an green wire hanging out of it(Iits been cut)

Continued my search today with little to no avail.

Started continuity testing the "Unidentified plug" and found 3 wires all seem to head to the heater box / climate control system.

The thick black wire heads to the blue fuse box? And a green wire with yellow strip also heads to the same blue fuse box.

As pictured;

I was wondering if there is some kind of climate control / heater controller or junction box that this plug would normally go into?

  • 2 weeks later...

I happen to be doing a bit of wiring work today on my HCR coupe manual, and this plug is disconnected - everything in the car functions perfectly. I suspect it may be for auto transmission variants, but could be wrong. Good luck.

Edit - I mean the large plug in your first post.

For some added comfort, I've traced a few RB20 harnesses for my RB25 conversion, and on every one the 2 green plugs are relays, easy, and the long white plug in your picture has never had a home, and the car has never had any problems running. Should be noted that all the in cabin amenities work just fine too.

Thanks for the reply mate.

After pestering every skyline owner I knew to check on their own cars, I've found that in all manuals the plug is "spare" and in an automatic the plug has a home..

just too confirm what you said automatic 4 door r32 skylines have a ecu or computer there for that plug no idea why because I had the same problem. I had a automatic harness for a manual car and I found a random ecu and was very confused but I found out I didn't need it and threw it and my car works fine

'Random' ECU was PROBABLY some sort of a piggy back TCM (Transmission Control Module)/big extra Inhibitor switch relay for the engine ECU. Automatic vehicles only. Couldn't bee 100% as I don't own gay autos. :whistling:

Thank you for all the reply's btw!

Still working on this car.

It won't start, figured I would just add a post to this thread instead of starting a new.

I've got a few plugs that I would like identified ^_^

Not starting symptoms;

There is no fuel, i've pulled the lines off and cranked the car over. Nothing comes out.

Initially replaced the fuel pump as I assumed it might have died.

Still no fuel.

Checked fuses, all good.

Checked fuel pump relay in the boot, and the 2 x ign and acc relays in the passenger footwell.

ECU displays a solid red light with accessories on.

Goes out when cranking.

Not sure if this is normal?

Engine cranks, but doesn't fire. (no fuel obv)

The following plugs are unplugged, as i can't find a home for them.

This one, it's near the power steering fluid reseviour;

Also i'm not sure where this wire goes, is it an earth?

Any idea's, or plug identification would be fantastic!

I had hoped that the ECU had no power or something easy, but alas the light made me sad!

Cheers! :D

Check that bridging the fuel pump relay turns on the pump.

I removed the relay's and tested them with power on the battery. It made an audible click as the relay engaged.

How do I bridge it on the car?

Your first picture at the power steer tank would be for the Air Reg resistor.

Next one near brake booster would be for the MAP sensor, factory boost gauge.

Can't make out the one that's taped up, perhaps the Air Reg? Have you got it in? It's buried under the plenum.

Thanks for the reply;

What is an Air Reg? What is it's function?

MAP sensor / boost gauge. Is this required for the car to run? I must be missing the sensor. It bolts to the firewall? Near the brake master cylinder?

The last one is factory shielded like that.. not sure where it goes? The Air Reg? The cold start thingo? Yeah that's in with the hoses hooked up to it. I think there's a plug on it also?

    • Just a thought, how come you didn't use a 4D table? So you essentially run 2x fuel and 2x ignition tables, and the table/map switch is handled when there's enough WMI pressure detected. This is mine, but using the flex sensor as the 4th dimension, note the slider at the bottom. Between 0 to 70%, the timing is blended/interpolated , once it goes past 70% ethanol full send
    • Hi guys, after dreaming of owning a JDM legend for 20 years, I got the chance to buy a 1995 R33 GTR.  I live in a small country called the Solomon Islands which is in the pacific. There is no performance car scene here, however 90% of vehicles here are 2nd hand Japanese imports so there is a handful of JDM sports cars here, tucked away.  3 Evo VI’s, 1 180sx turbo, 2 GTO’s, 1 R32 GTR and 2 R33 GTR’s.    Only 1 Evo and a 33 (mine) are active. I’m hoping to set up a club to get these cars back in the road.    I’d known of my GTR for 9 years and always dreamed of owning it. At the start of this year I found it sitting outside a workshop waiting for a respray. It was in pretty bad shape, although running and driving perfectly apart from a big exhaust leak and worn out bushings. My brother in law who is a huge GTR guy came over for a holiday and I took him to see it, he got into my ear and I bought the car 2 weeks later as is.   I’ve had a pretty bad problem with alcohol and weed since 2020 and I really wanted to quit. So I used this as my motivation. I quit everything cold turkey and have been investing all my spare time into restoring this car. It’s honestly been the best experience and has been such a positive impact on my life.  There is no market for these cars here, no parts and no mechanics that can work on them, so if you wanted to sell one it would be pretty impossible unless you found the right buyer. After a bit of negotiating with the previous owner (a good friend) I got the car for $15,000 AUD ($85,000 SBD) which is insane.  I’ve almost finished doing a refresh on the engine, new turbos, spark plugs and split fire coil packs. Also new gaskets and seals, This car had no leaks to begin with, but it’s due now being 30 years old. . Next I’ll be working on the suspension, all new bushings, ball joints, king pins and new coil overs.  Then it will be body work, it has really bad rust in the boot floor, I have purchased a rear beaver cut from my bro which will replace the rusted out one. The car is originally KL0, but was burnt orange when it landed here, then it was resprayed toxic green and then Bayside Blue. I’m probably going to get it redone in Bayside Blue.  I’m super grateful to be able to enjoy this car and couldn’t have done it without my bro Chris from OG-JDM. Looking forward to the future with this car and hoping to get it on the runway at the airport here 😂  cheers fellas
    • Also, it is just about triangularity. The less angle, the easier it physically is to do. Think of the amount of slip you're getting, as how hard you need to push an object. More slip, equals pushing way harder. Then the ramp is how steep the hill is. The Accel is less slip, which means it takes less pushing (less slip) to get it to be able to push apart. However, the steeper sides on the decell means it will take a lot more pushing (slip) to get it up the ramp.
    • It's the angle of the ramp from the vertical. You're measuring from the horizontal. To convert, take 90* minus your angle reference = Nismo Angle.
    • I agree, thus 45 degree is the *max* force one could apply to it. This is similar to what I've seen in uh... simulations... which allow you to play with diff ramp angles. Anything higher (or lower) than 45 degree would produce less force as 45 is the max... triangley.  I would state the 1 way is 90 degree, at least this is how my brain and other ways of explaining it refer to it. 90 degree also effectively acted completely open. I realise Nismo refer to it not as 90 (or 89) but "1". So I'm not understanding the angle on which these angles are based.
