Really would like to turbo charge but i have a couple of questions which I haven’t been able to answer myself online.

1. Is it possible (I assume you can pretty much Turbo any V6 but again that’s why I’m asking)

2. Cost$$$

3. What other upgrades need to be done so that this turbo can be implemented efficiently.

4. Is it worth the time?

Again thanks and if anyone has experience doing this be it negative or positive I’d love to know.

The 2.5dd is a high compression motor, the only way to turbocharge it imo is to run it on e85, there is no way a 12:1 compression ratio will work with boost on petrol otherwise.

The other option is to swap in a VQ25det, which I am doing for another bloke in a few weeks. I am going to get it running on the stock ecu, with an Emanage Ultimate to help tune the timing and fuel. Keep in mind the det is a rare motor and will set you back 3k or so S/H.

Cost wise, if you need to ask, you should stop now. :P

man thats a shame, what exactly is e85? i guess i should have done some more research when i baught the car ah well what can you do, you wouldnt happen to know if the Plenum spacer Kit for the VQ35DE will fit on the VQ25DD, i mean the engine looks the same shape.

Too much effort IMO. Always better off with factory performance cars, everything is ready to go. Its not just about the engine, the auto box will need work if its to survive for a decent period of time, diff may not be strong enough, brakes will not be up to the task, then you will want to upgrade the suspension, replace the flat seats... etc

Basically, once you add up the cost of parts, labour, upgrades to other bits, and fixing stuff that breaks along the way (this will always happen) all of a sudden you have spent R33 GTR money

Agreed, but then you have an old GTR and no bank account anyway. :P

All those parts would have to be upgraded in any build, factory turbo or not.

e85 = 85% Ethanol and 15%petrol = Perfect fuel for turbocharged cars.

Anything is possible with enough $$$. But as Scotty said, this engine isn't going to make it easy for you. E85 is 85% ethanol fuel. Ethanol has a considerably higher octane rating than petrol, so it has a higher resistance to detonation, meaning you can run higher cylinder pressures before it self ignites.

Otherwise, the VQ25DD will need a tear down and rebuild for lower compression. A VQ25DET engine would be ideal, but as mentioned, they are not commonly available.

If you were after more performance, as 350GT would have been a better option, there are aftermarket supercharger/turbocharger kits available.

Ok, thanks for all the information, where would one get e85, i dont think ive seen it at regular petrol station, only ever seen 10% ethenol. anyway theres a lot to consider ( buying a different car) being one of em, but id be keen to hear of any other modes that can add something to the car, be it speed or control, shift kits seem like a great mod for an automatic car however i dont know to much about them and have only heard of the Trans Go range, which unfortunately don't make a kit for my gear box (RE4R01B) so if anyone has any experience with this gear box and gettitng a shift kit installed id love to hear about it.

If you stumble across a nice search engine on the interwebz called google and type in RE4RO1B you will be amazed that it is actually a R34 GT-T auto box and that MV automatics in SA make one for this box. How do i know this? Ive done it. I am the person doing the VQ25DET swap in the 250GT.

What is this Google you speak of?

I wasn’t able to find shift kits for my gearbox in the limited time that I have for searching for this kind of thing hence why I post on forums so that I may hear from other peoples experience, as I believe this is a reliable way of getting the right information. In the past I’ve learned so much from Google to only be invalidated by real people’s experience. As far as MV automatics in SA, I am in NSW Sydney, kind of a long drive, but thank you for the information, which i will now use to perform said upgrades :D. Also how much is Scott charging you to put in the shift kit, really looking at getting this upgrade.

I had my shift kit put in last year by a friend and former NM35 stagea owner. Scotty is doing my VQ25DET motor swap.

Ring MV automatics. What will happen is: you pay i think it was $550 in total. $100 of it is like a deposit. They send you the upgraded valve body ok. You put the upgraded one in and take the factory one out. Send them your OLD factory valve body and the give you the $100 back.

Ring around some automatic transmission specialists in sydney and get a quote on how much to have it installed.

I will tell you this right now: changes are quicker but not smoother and tend to be clunky/rough on occasion

Does this effect the ride comfort/jerk the car on gear changes?

It's not a commodore. :P

Of course it won't be as smooth as oem, that's why the clutches slip between gears to make it all seamless and gentle. It shouldn't be harsh at all, but I have yet to feel the MV kit.

sorry, never driven a commodore, dont expect ultimate smoothness, but it as long as it doesnt jerk or anything, i dont realyl care, how is driving tip tronic affected by the shift kits any noticible difference from full auto?

Its still pretty smooth 90% of the time. You do feel it change but every now and then in bumper to bumper or low speeds it gets a bit jerky.

    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small.     • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
