Hey folks, i bought a 350gt recently and was looking into getting a cruise control system for it, however the places ive tried locally (Townsville NQ) noone even wants to look at it. I should be capable of installing the system on my own, i was just after some advice or suggestions on where would be a good place to buy the system, and the buttons for the steering wheel. Thanks in advance

I bought mine from Commsman a while back, he put together several for sale, don't think he has any more though, but he might be able to tell you where to get the parts from. Works very well and he sold it with the factory steering wheel controls, so it all looks like a factory setup.. was about $600.

But really, any cruise designed for a DBW throttle should work.

Otherwise Chris Rogers will be able to advise.. not sure if he sells the kit though, probably supply+install only.

Have been considering 'frankestining' my speedo cluster to add the 'cruise' and 'set' lights for mine.

I'm assuming the aftermarket cruise control lets you set the speed above 100km/h?

Unlike the factory one from Japan which only allows up to 100km/h

Also Can you post a pic?

yes, it is an aftermarket unit, so it isn't limited like the dealer option.

What do you want a pic of? the only thing visible in the car is the factory cruise control switches which look like these - http://www.ebay.com/itm/INFINITI-G35-SEDAN-STEERING-WHEEL-AUDIO-CRUISE-CONTROL-SWITCH-OEM-/151225242020

Unless you have a Momo or other steering wheel like mine...

I then used the stalk, which was an easier install, and also gave two preset speeds as an option.

It looked like this...

Better than the VDO buttons I have now on my V36..

Sorry to hijack the thread. On the topic of cruise control. I'm going to get the top spec V36 370GT. I don't know whether to get it with cruise control or without?

In terms of converting it so you can set the speed limit above 100km/h. Anyone know if it's like the Sat Nav conversion in regards of money, cheaper to get it without cruise and just whack on a new one, or same price or dearer to convert the factory one it comes with?

Thinking Chris is probably the one with the answers but if anyone else has info on the matter, can you please let me know.

Cheers

On the V36, cruise control is optional even for the SP grade. It's difficult to retrofit as you need to have steering wheel controls which can only be ordered along with the steering wheel itself.

The full "cruise control" package according to the specs has the following:

  • Steering wheel switch (audio, navigation, hands-free phone, intelligent cruise control)
  • Intelligent cruise control
  • Front seat emergency brake sensitive pre-crash seat belt
  • Intelligent Brake Assist

It is unlikely that any random V36 will have this option fitted, so you may need to spend extra months on auctions if this option is a must

I wanted this origionally... But in the end it was limiting me too much in car selection...

Just bought the best car I could afford, and fitted cruise once it was landed in AUS. Yes I don't get the radar/laser range sensor in the front bumper and the lights on the dash telling me it is working, but it holds the car at constant speed, and works at any speed I want it to..

P.S. the cruise and audio controls are available on eBay from the US quite easily, asssuming that the G37 ones are compatable...But you will need a new steering wheel insert, as stocked by Chris, to install them.

Thanks for reply. I already know it's an extra option. What I really need to find out is if the factory cruise control it comes with can easily be converted to allow the speed be set above the 100km/h it is limited to in Japan. Much like how the car's speed is limited to 180km/h in Japan but if a speed limit Defencer is fitted in Australia, which is a cheap and easy fix, it will allow the car go to its max speed.

I really do t see why you are looking for something that cannot be modified. You are not talking about an 80s car here where a Zener diode and a few components worth the speed issue.

Speed on the 36 series is DATA driven.

Nick has it I a nutshell. I sell both the 35 series and 36 series as full kits. The 36 series I sell complete with the CORRECT controls (of which there are 6 variants) and the wheel control housing.

You lot make things entirely too difficult for yourselves.. Seriously.

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
