So I've never Really been a big fan of nissans wasn't really my thing. then one day my friend wanted to leave his a31 at mine for a bit while he moved houses, being the nice person i am i said not a problem.
It sat around for a few weeks so i decided to take it down the road, soon as that happened i fell in love with it.
it just sat there for a few more week, then i decided to be cheeky and ask if he would sell it, few minutes latter i got a reply sure.
next day the money was in his hand.

(wasn't the cleanest a31 out)
As I started tiding it up then found that much rust on the body and chassis rails it wasn't worth the hassle tiding up.
the motor, gearbox, hubs etc were still in great conditions so i thought i would just find a body and put it all in to that.

Found a really tidy C33 body from a client at work and brought that, then started putting all the good parts onto it

new stream tube manifold finally arrived after it somehow ended up going all the way to Christchurch but it finally is here
hopefully have it on the motor on Sunday and maybe just maybe have the motor back in as well. Haven't really been able to work on the car due to the lack of daylight after work and plus i haven't set up power in the workshop too (just been lazy) but not really much left to do on the motor just have to install 2 helicoils due to the tread being stuffed on two exhaust stud holes, who ever done it before used silicone to hold the studs in curse.png

20140411_211143_zpstmdbasco.jpg

Finally got the motor in today
had to grid the R/H engine mount bracket down due the the new exhaust manifold wouldn't clear it, found that the L/H engine mount thread on the studs were stuffed so had to clean that up before anything went in.
next thing will be to clean up the engine wiring loom now and finish rebuilding the 25 big box (will post photos of it getting rebuilt soon), put the gear box in and mount the intercooler piping

So been a bit of a fun weekend
got the gearbox mounted up only problem I've got now is that i don't have a gearbox cross-member to suit a c33, r32 and a31 don't fit they are way to short . will just be using a RP71C gearbox while I rebuild the 25 big box
finally got some wiring sleeve so now i can start making the new wiring loom, going to move it so it come out of the aircon pipe hole keep the engine bay looking clean
and plus manged to get a new turbo aswell

Another little update

Engine Wiring loom is coming along really well, just hit the speed bump of what ecu am i going to run or get the factory one chipped and tuned, leaning towards a megasquirt ecu at the moment.

Finally tracked down the right gearbox crossmember, so thats on its way and hopefully have that in on saturday.

And got all new adjustable arms and rear subframe lock kit

I really hope you continue as you are going. This looks good. Please don't change the body in any way. Just keep it clean and sleeper style. Good work so far. Any ideas what that Holset will make ? Do yourself a favour and change the subframe bushes as soon as you can as the lock rings aren't as good as solid subframe bushes or if you are going to use it for regular road driving then urethane bushes will be a better bet.

Body will stay as is nice and clean, just need to find a new front bumper thats uncut. unsure on the holset, if i made 250 kw id be happy.

will be changing to solid subframe bushes.

If it helps the tps on my 25 has two plugs but only one is used, perhaps the unused one is something to do with cruise control, or if fitted with auto transmission? Not sure, but it doesn't cause any issues and I've seen a lot of others the same

Cheers for that, i've been doing some research into its aswell and have come across the same thing 1 plug is tps and the other one is used for throttle fully open and throttle fully closed.

I've still been mucking around with the exhaust system, still got to plum the wastegate pipe in, but the main exhaust is done its all welded up and just waiting for the paint to dry.

I finally got my hand on a oil filter stud, nissan here in Rotorua, New Zealand have no idea what the are doing half the time, had to find the part number my self

so now i've gotten rid of the factory oil cooler and will be running an aftermarket 10 row cooler

Its getting so close, just got a few thing i want to tidy up then i can send it to the auto sparky and get the wiring done.

To do...

wastegate pipe, i'm thinking about running it the full length of the car and having it come out next to the exhaust.

Fuel injectors / fuel lines

alternator

power steering rack / lines

apart from the to do list i haven't been doing much on the car, made a few workbenches, painted the front control arms, waiting for the intercooler pipes to come back from the engineer.

    • You will now be able to lift the parcel shelf trim enough to get to the shock cover bolts; if you need to full remove the parcel shelf trim for some reason you also remove the escutcheons around the rear seat release and you will have to unplug the high stop light wiring from the boot. Next up is removal of the bracket; 6 nuts and a bolt Good news, you've finally got to the strut top! Remove the dust cover and the 3 shock mount nuts (perhaps leave 1 on lightly for now....) Same on the other side, but easier now you've done it all before
    • OK, so a bunch of trim needs to come off to get to the rear shock top mounts. Once the seat is out of the way, the plastic trim needs to come off. Remove 2 clips at the top then slide the trim towards the centre of the car to clear the lower clip Next you need to be able to lift the parcel shelf, which means you need to remove the mid dark trim around the door, and then the upper light trim above the parcel shelf. The mid trim has a clip in the middle to remove first, then lift the lowest trim off the top of the mid trim (unclips). At the top there is a hidden clip on the inner side to release first by pulling inwards, then the main clip releases by pulling the top towards the front of the car. The door seal comes off with the trim, just put them aside. The the lighter upper trim, this is easy to break to top clips so take it carefully. There is a hidden clip towards the bottom and another in the middle to release first by pulling inwards. Once they are out, there are 3 clips along the rear windscreen side of the panel that are hard to get under. This is what the rear of the panel looks like to assist:
    • Yes. Autos typically work from the speed sensor on the pinion shaft of the diff. I also think that even if you have a proper speed sensor for the bog manual in the manual box, that the signal it outputs is not compatible with the auto dash anyway. You should consult that manual (the book, not the gearbox).
    • And I just realised that that advice is slightly nonsensical for a GTR, because you need 2 of them. But it is otherwise true.
    • Having had a reasonable look at the car, I'll be able to remove the (one time) rams and retract the hinge (they are held in the down location by a tiny (m3?) sacrificial screw) which will get it physically back in shape. From there if you remove the rams you need a resistor to turn off the airbag light (as Mark said, there are plug in kits and I might go that way because its reversible). And...per all the threads on here, even if you have the resistors to turn off the airbag light, the bonnet light will stay on as it writes to the airbag computer history - that is either replace the airbag controller, reprogam the EPROM (if I can work out how), or remove the globe from the dash. Having seen how sensitive this system is, if I had my time over I'd pre-emptively remove the rams, even on a road car, because this is all a very unnecessary pain in the arse. Reminds me, time to go and have a look at the Fuga too....
