Currently my setup is as follows:

RB26 - standard bottom end

Tomei type b cams

3inch exhaust

GT3582R 19psi

and all the other bits and pieces to go with it

Now i made 510rwhp, my tuner took the torque figure because he sais it was pretty useless.

From others graphs Ive seen with the same turbo the torque has been around the 500 mark.

My question is, if i change back to say -5's and put my car on e85 will i make the same power but heaps more torque?

Most -5 setups Ive been seeing are all 700+ with some making just over 1000 with around the same 500hp figure

And then have the other obvious advantages like legality.

The car is a street car but I would like to get into a track day here and there and would really just like to get the most out of it.

No point having the high mount single when i could have better results with the twins and still look legal under the bonnet.

Am i on the right track?

Go do a few track days without changing anything.

The car will have far more speed than you can extract out of yourself.

+1.

I never realised how much my car outperformed my driving skills on a track until I actually got out and started doing laps. No point making upgrades if you are the weakest link.

As for going back to twins, I would keep the GT35R you have on there now unless you're seriously concerned about copping a defect. The difference between -5s and a GT35R would be very minimal.

Or if you are concerned about your result swap it out for a HTA3582 or GTX3582 and lean on it and you will make more than you could ever need...

But as the other guys said, its just a number... The car by rights should be bloody quick as it is so there is no point spending all that time and money going back to low mounts.

i just want to mention that reading torque from a dyno graph is absolutely useless unless it's an engine dyno.

don't compare your torque figures to other peoples, it doesn't make sense to do so.

torque changes with leverage so using a different gear or even different size wheels will yield a different result. It is also possible to get much more torque at the wheels than at the engine (unlike power). so forget about it!

if you really want to upgrade your turbo look at what Matt said. My choice would be the HTA3582. It will be more responsive and have more top end than your current turbo

Why is it running "only" 19psi? The torque figure is largely going to be from the engine VE and boost level, all other things being equal. If you have a good exhaust manifold and tune then psi for psi the GT35R should be more or less capable of matching or bettering your typical -5 setup - at least until you start maxing it out (-5s probably have a slight peak flow potential).

Sorting out the tune and raising the boost should see more to be had, any lack of torque isn't indicative of that turbo's potential - especially at that boost level.

Torque figures on a standard dyno is meaningless

They have plenty of meaning, that is how they tune for maximum best torque. As long as no variables are changed then torque output is a critical component of seeing the performance gains of mods.

Of course comparing torque figures between dyno's is gayer than comparing dicks.

yes of course but the numbers are arbitrary

    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
    • Hi Guys, Does anyone know any aftermarket part numbers for a starter motor to suit the VQ25DET? I can find lots of alternative part number for the VQ35DE, which I assume would fit, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Thanks..
    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
