Hey guys, im going to turbo my na RB25/30 DE, im only going stock stuff for the moment. so std rb25 manifold turbo etc... ill get custom downpipe made because im sure it wouldnt fit. only thing im confused about is the turbo and water lines on the rb30. does anyone have pictures on where they go or any advice on where they go on the turbo? ive never done it before and id like to know before i start exactly where everything goes ! cheers guys

There's an entire section dedicated to rb2530 conversions.

Pretty much all are turbo so it's easy to see by the pics where the oil feed and drain goes. There's even a pdf on how to do the conversion.

You could run low boost. Really low. Like less than 5 psi. With good intercooling and a large rear side on the turbo (to reduce exhaust backpressure) you could probably do even more than that on 98, but no-one around has much experience with running high static comp and much boost. So the limit will not be well known. On E85 you could well be able to run quite decent boost.

A large exhaust side on the turbo will dull response a little, but it's already a high comp twin cam 3L, so it shouldn't be too bad off boost. And the tradeoff when it starts making power will be well worth it.

If it were me - I wouldn't be using the standard log manifold. I'd be trying to make a decent manifold with nice anti-reversion steps at the head face and 6Boost style merge collector to try to keep the exhaust flow as clean as possible. Big fat dump pipe and cat to get the backpressure as low as possible.

big turbo, big rear housing on said turbo, low boost, aftermarket manifold, external gate 50mm minimum. 3.5" dump pipe minimum

with compression around the 12s i wouldnt go smaller than a GT35 size and on 98 fuel I'd be more inclined to use a 1.06 ar turbine housing

I dont know why they would say it would be fine to run low boost if it would damage something, although i am a bit scared to do it and it all end in tears.....

it's fine.. all comes down to tuning, fuel type and cooling hardware

Honda boys have been turbo charging their motors since forever.

I purchased a std rb25 turbo today and standard manifold. i wanted to get it running and upgrade it later, ill get a custom dump made up because the standard one wont fit anyway for my car im going to rebuild the turbo too since its not running at the moment. im not looking for major boost or power just something to give it an extra kick. i was intending to race the car but now have changed it. just want it a good weekend cruiser. 200rwkw is enough and its making around 160rwkw in n/a form now im sure 4-6psi on 98 will be over that mark. ill keep you guys posted how i go and what i decide to do though.

Thats the thing, this thing is a pig ! unless you are over 4000rpm it has nothing at all. its a weird setup it needs to be revved to keep the thing going.

And just how are you getting 160rwkW from a 25/30? The 2JZ is an eminently better twin cam 3L than the dirty 30 ever was, and they are doing well when they are making >140rwkW NA. I'd need to see massive cams, special exhaust and inlet stuff on your engine to go close to believing it.

It really depends on the chamber, and how many hot spots there are for detonation to occur. The VQ35 is a pretty good modern design and still had issues, mainly as the rods couldn't take it.

The 12:1 comp FT86 engine can handle plenty of boost as the direct injectors don't spray fuel until after top dead centre, No fuel, no det.

Its got custom cams , oversize valves custom extractors and 3" exhaust.... last made 153kw atw i just found the dyno sheet....

    • Which solenoid? Why was it changed? Again, why was this done? ...well, these wear..but ultimately, why was it changed? Did you reset the idle voltage level after fitment? I'm just a tad confused ~ the flash code doesn't allude to these items being faulty, so in my mind the only reason to change these things, would be some drive-ability issue....and if that's the case, what was the problem? Those questions aside, check if the dropping resistor is OK ...should be 11~14 ohms (TCU doesn't throw a flash code for this) ~ also, these TCU designs have full time power (to keep fault code RAM alive), and I think that'll throw a logic code (as opposed to the 10 hardware codes), if that power is missing (or the ram has gone bad in the TCU, which you can check..but that's another story here perhaps).
    • Question for people who "know stuff" I am looking at doing the new intake like the one in the picture (the pictured is designed for the OEM TB and intake plenum), this design has the filter behind the front bar, but, the filter sits where the OEM duct heads into the front bar, and the standard aperture when the OEM ducting is removed allows the filter to pulled back out of the front bar into the engine bay for servicing, a simple blanking plate is used to seal the aperture behind the filter This will require a 45° silicone hose from the TB, like the alloy pipe that is currently there, to another 45° silicone hose to get a straight run to the aperture in the front bar Question: how will it effect the tune if I move the MAF about 100-150mm forward, the red is around where my MAF is currently, and the green would be where it would end up Like this This is the hole the filter goes through  Ends up like this LOL..Cheers    
    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
    • Hi All, putting the engine back together and everything is perfect except have this plug left over.. any ideas what it is for and where it goes? Is on cold side under the intake plenum *note not a stock plug, as everything has been modified Cheers
