Hello

As I build up my r32 gts-t, I am learning things.

I will now see what it is like to drive with a boost controller on the car. Later a turbo upgrade.

Wondering, if later I want more power, is it better to put a rb 25 engine in the car and upgrade? Put a rb26 in the car and upgrade? Or just save money for a while and get a r32 gtr? Will the features on the GTR be worth it or will putting a bigger engine in be better and more cost effective and sensible?

I have researched what the engines can do, just wondering what would be the most sensible route.

The real smart option is sell the un-built-up yet car and buy someone else's finished project car then change the styling/bits to suit what your end goal is.

This saves you monstrous amounts of time and money in the long run.

Are you in Japan or Aus? You can buy already modified GTR quite cheap in Japan. But for example in NZ you can get a well modified R32 GTR for $30 - $35K or buy a stock one for $20k and then have to spend $30k to get the same thing.

A few points.

No-one in their right mind would put an RB26 into an R32 when a Neo RB25 is a better motor.

No-one in their right mind would put an RB30 block based engine into an R32 unless they like bonnet clearance problems and doing stupid things like lowering the subframe to make it fit.

R32 GTR will send you mad and broke unless you spend a lot of coin to buy a really good one. Anything that is old and much used will always be breaking something annoying and expensive to replace. Better off buying an R34 GTR.

I live in Japan

Early model r32 gtr getting expensive because can be imported back to the states legally now. 91, 92's and 93's are still ok.

Why is the RB25 neo a better option? I reseached putting Rb25's in(non neo) and it seems to be difficult because of the wiring and so on.

R34 GTR still close to 30000 dollars here.

I like the idea of the ITB on the 26.

Neo 25 is basically the same capacity as RB26, has variable cam timing. Has the same type of solid lifters as RB26, same oil pump, same conrods. Made same power (officially, actually less in reality) as RB26 when new. But the actual power potential of the base engine is about the same as RB26 - just with variable cam timing on top to make it nicer to drive on the street.

it is a no-brainer.

And if the wiring work required to fit a 25 of any sort is too much trouble, then the work required to fit an RB26 will be too much also.

ITBs are nice, but in real terms you woul dnever know the difference whether they were there or not.

R34 @ $30000 sounds like the way I would spend my money.

Ok I will look into it more,

R34 is nice but there are other more important things to spend 30000 dollars on than a r34 gtr at this point.

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
