EMStress..

Man if your going to all that trouble how could you go such a cheap ECU.. Why not look at a microtech, Haltech or PowerFC.

Not to mention the Power FC is VERY affordable and really, for this application you cant beat a full plug and play ECU.

  • 1 year later...

The EMS is a stand-alone fuel system therefore one advantage is that u can do away with an AFM (air flow meter) as some people consider it as an 'bottleneck', my mates R31 (RB30DET ie RB26 head !) runs an EMS and he's achieved 210rwkw on the dyno just to say what they are capable of. Now, the RB30ET from the VL Calais was originally released with a T28 or T3 if my memory serves me correctly so it would be a hi-flowed version of either one of these but I am 110% sure that the RB30ET did NOT come out with a T4. Hope that helped.

By the way, when I say EMS, Im referring to the brand, ie the blue logo..... Like I said, you can get rid of ya AFM (why bother upgrading to a Z32 afm??) by using the EMS, you can eliminate the intake air-flow's parameter in it's mapping so you can have an intake pipe from the air filter to the turbo as big as u want it in diameter without any restrictions such as the size of the AFM.

Why hi-flow a VL turbo, when a hi-flowed NEO turbo will deliver more power? VL turbo's have a smaller comp cover, restricting air flow.

If i had to decide between a std NEO eng or rebuilding a 33 eng, i would rebuild the 33 with full set of forgies, especially at "family rates".

RB30, with RB26 head, making ONLY 210rwkw is a damn pretty poor effort. Not sure it that is because of a tired eng., poor tune or ecu related, but i wouldn't accept that power out of such a proven combo.

Something sounds drastically wrong

Al, detuned until he can afford a R33 GTST box n a diff upgrade. Dont forget, not everbody has the funds (or the bloody rich parents) to do what they want to their cars, considering Mr Rigoli probably sent him broke with donk alone. It makes me sick sometimes, I came to a cruz a little while ago and took some photos, I took one at Newcastle with a whole isle of Skylines and you know what? 9 / 10 were P platers ! Now the question is how many of these are actually owned by the driver? and not brought with mummy's cash ? It took me two years of my hard savings just to get to my starting point - a '97 series II '33. No offence to any of the p-platers that actually got their cars with their own cash but I think ppl know what Im on about. It'd be nice to have all the cash in the world to do whatever u want to ya ride

Smok74, i fully respect that point of view, as it has taken me 6yrs to build up my car from std to what it is today.

I am not sure what triggered your inital response, as i see the cost of buying a NEO and completing the conversion into a 33, would probably be as expensive as rebuilding the 33 RB25. Also the benifits would be greater as it would have much stronger internals.

If it was my rb30/rb26 comments that triggered your post, well a standard rb26 makes a easy 250rwkw, let alone the 30/26 combo. :(

EDIT: Just worked it out :P (combo is detuned to save the box and diff ). Well you did not state that in your initial post, was just stating that the combo is capable of much better results :D.

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
    • Thank you so much for the help
    • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
