rebuilding coilovers - HELP

Hi,

I have a set of Quantum coilovers in my car, and the left rear shock is leaking oil and in need of a rebuild.

So far I have spoken to two people, one said he knows a place in melbourne who can rebuild them, the other said that for the cost involved in rebuilding them, he can do me a rear set of Bilstiens and have them vavled correctly

Whats the go with rebuilding coilovers? Has anyone had it done succesfully?

These guys rebuilt my APEXi T-max coilovers successfully. Might not be of much help in Brissie though. Cost me $550 to get all four coilovers rebuilt. If you want them revalved also there is no extra cost during the rebuild.

I picked them up 2nd hand and got them checked out before launching in and fitting them. The gas had leaked out of 3 of them which generally means the oil isn't too far behind, so I got them rebuilt. I told them I was in no hurry when I dropped them in as the car was still in compliance at that stage and it still only took 4 days to get the coilovers back. The service was very good. If I want them re valved now he said to let him know when and drop them in in the morning and he would have them ready by the arfternoon. Really good to deal with. Always has plenty of race prepared vehicles there which always gives me confidence.

I am going to a place today here in Adelaide, apparently they have rebuilt Tien's etc, so I will let everyone know how I go, if they are any good, i will post up contact details

Well, after much stuffing about locally, I am sending mine up to the guys in QLD.

The workshop, which will remain un-named (PM me if you want to know SA guys) had them for 5 weeks, and I rang them today, and they said it would be another 7 weeks. Totally un-acceptable

Rang the guys in QLD www.shockreco.com and they reckon they could turn in around in under a week - needless to say, once I have picked them up they are heading up to them

Will keep everyone informed,

Shocks are ready, and on there way back. A week turnaround time all up once they had recieved them, pretty good I reckon!

Cost me the standard rebuild price of $147.50ea plus freight, so works out to be a excellent price all up.

Going to get my fronts done once I have the rears back, will let everyone know how they go once they are installed

They also do Teins, HKS, Nismo etc, pretty much anything

Put my rebuilt rear shocks in last night, everything went well.

I went for a quick drive last night and they feel great, the past two months I have been running around on stock tyres and a set of half decent rear shocks, so it was great the get some decent sus and tyres back on the car.

I also noticed that my front left was starting to get a bit noisy too, so looks like I will need to get them done soon as well ;)

Overall I reckon they have done a top job, I guess only time will tell if thats the case, but so far I cannot speak highly enough of their service - reccomend them to anyone.

After being given the run around locally, it was good to finally get some decent service from someone. It ended up costing me $147.50 to get each shock rebuilt, and the postage cost me around $80 there and back, so it works out to be reasonably cheap, cheapre thnbuying new shocks anyhow!

Will let everyone know how they go over the next few months :(

      The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.

      Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.

      Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks

      Hi Guys, Does anyone know any aftermarket part numbers for a starter motor to suit the VQ25DET? I can find lots of alternative part number for the VQ35DE, which I assume would fit, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Thanks..

      I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
