Having recently spoken with my mechanic and looking as to what the next power mod should be (predominately for track work), the suggestion was for hi-flowing the existing turbos on the car (R33 GTR). Just wondering what many of you learned forced induction-ists think about hi-flowing over changing turbos to ball bearing jobbies. Not so much looking for FULL rev range increases but certainly relatively low rev spooling and constant power delivery.

Thanks

The highflow cost me $1850 but dont look at their webstite (GCG) cause apparently they dont high flow them to what they used to because they were having problems with surging....

About the difference I have NFI still waiting for it to be drivable, give me two weeks

Had my turbo "Hi'Flowed" with steel wheels etc in my R33 gts-t....at 18psi puts 224kW to the ground (with all the usual supporting mods, using standard injectors). Works well for the money, but full boost is at round 4500rpm....bit high for my likeing.....if I could go back I think id spend a bit extra an go for a good second hand Apexi AX53B70 kit and make the same power at less boost (round 15-16psi) which would come in earlier in the rev range. Only had the Hi-flow in for 3 months, still considering selling it an upgrading.

My 2 cents

Thats what I thought too......but......thats not what I got. Have to run higher boost (which isnt good...more boost more stess on motor etc..) and turbo starts to spool (round 7psi) at about 3500rpm. Before upgrade, running my standard turbo at 1Bar (round 15psi) i had 176kW at the wheels, getting FULL boost at 3500rpm.

I'm not quite sure what goes with normal hi-flowing. I bought the turbo exchange for mine. The new one looked the same externally, but the insides were all machined out to house bigger steel wheels, even machined out the inlet. And of course...all the components were new.

Yep, I went the highflow - rebuild process with GCG, happy with the results of that.

Makes 260rwkw's on 21psi, its at the limit of its power now..

Maybe looking for a Garrett 3071 or GT30/40 as my engine is being rebuilt with forged internals..

Well high-flowed turbos will definitely not lower your boost threshold... If anything, it'll be laggier than stock, but higher top end...

Mines better with the highflow, full boost by 3500rpm, power all the way through the rev range, responsive off boost.. ect..j

What other modifications did you do at the same time as the turbo upgrade?

Wait........ Are you crediting your high-flow for the "responsive off boost"??? hsugh.gif

So based on what most people have said, what should I be looking at paying for hi-flowing the turbos - based on the fact that I really have NFI as to what removal - re-build - install is worth and roughly how long does it take to get done?

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
