WA has 38 thefts/10,000 registrations - 25% more than the next worst State in NSW.

Things are so out of hand that "Black Knight" trackers are being offered to owners of 'High Risk' cars' owners for linking to their phones.

Thoughts?

I bet I could post up links to about 15 odd threads that started this year (2014) all about there cars being stolen, or theft attempts, from the VIC section alone, but if I'm honest 38 cars stolen per 10,000 sounds kinda good to me, especially when I have secure parking.

I see a lot of thefts happen when the cars parked on the street, or at the train station etc...

But waddya do? crim's gonna crim.

also side note - Just car won't cover you for theft unless you have a AUS/NZ approved immobiliser (installed by authorised dealer), only just found out the other day...

Unsure how the "black knight" trackers work.

I have heard that thives are using GPS jammers to steal cars these days, even towed ones, they simply throw the device into the vehicle to block the signal.

So if its a GPS tracker, it can be disabled without even needing to find it.

There have been a few GTR's here in Vic that have simply vanished from the face of the planet......a very worring trend.

Doesn't matter what state. matters what area tbh. and what car. A lot of arabs west of sydney love skylines/supras. I've got an immobilizer and steering lock so unless the guys an expert or has a tow truck I think me cars okay. Stereo theft is a lot more common i think.
I want to invest in a tracker and up my security more. (won't get into to much detail on the web)
fyi nrma is cheaper then just car

Yeah last time I went to thailand I found this cellphone jammer for like $20 aud that also included a gps blocker, also blocks wifi, 3g, and 3 other things, I can upload a photo if you want? Its battery operated, don't ask me why i bought it, I've never needed to use it :/

I'll have to check out nrma,

But if you've got insurance then why bother spending more on updating security system if you already pay insurance?

Because if you have done a heap of mods the car is worth more than you can insure them for

Ding ding ding, nail on the head. also I got my car for a bargain and i was searching for ages for one in good condition at the price is bought it for so I would be pissed off if anything happened, would rather have my car than the money obviously. Still not a bad thing to up security, make it more of a pain to steal. but not much you can do if a tow truck wants your car with a jammer...

In NZ we can only dream of our vehicle theft rate being anywhere near that low, I think ours is somewhere in the mid-70s per 10,000 vehicles, but at least it's coming down, was well over 100 a few years ago, when buying a WRX or Legacy/Liberty turbo was akin to admitting you liked spending a lot of momey on a car someone else wanted more than you. The Police have made a few big busts that have put a dent in the steal-to-order and other professional rings.

These days sleeper vehicles hold a lot of appeal to me, basically drive something no one would want to steal. The problem is, even base-spec Skylines are being stolen simply because they're Skylines, so unfortunately this isn't an option for the majority of people on here.

^ of course they are.
^^ Yeah i love sleepers. I think my skyline is a bit of a sleeper because it has the series 1 spoiler. It has chrome rims (came with the car) but i want to f**k those off and get black ones

when i insured my stagea i insured it for several thousand more than what i payed. the premiums were a little higher but if it got nicked i would not be in a financially negative position.

ghost can i ring up my insurer and increase what it's worth after i already told them what i bought it for? I don't mind paying a little extra.. ill just say i added 3k wheels or something?

50k spent (not including purchase price) and insured for 35k.

Close enough? :rofl2:

Theifs gunna theif.

The GTR will never spend a day out of the garage, of which has video recording every day. I live in a quiet, dead end street that the only people know it's there are the only people that live in my street.

Also don't live in shit suburbs. Makes a difference.

    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
