Hey guys

Just curious if anyone has supercharged a v36. I've got a 2006 auto sedan and I'm toying with the idea of creating a sleeper.

Any advice on price, suppliers, installers, models would be appreciated.

I'm in western sydney btw.

Thanks in advance :)

Budget $15k as a STARTING point. You won't believe how many little and big things you need to change if you want to do it properly (including E85 conversion, new fuel lines, swirl tank, dual fuel pumps, flex sensor, then things like trans strengthening, diff strengthening, etc etc). Of course if you are mechanically handy you can save yourself a heap of cash (install is 20 hours+ so I am told).

I really don't think the auto transmission cares how the boost pressure is produced.

What makes you think it does?

Just my ignorance mate :-). I'm still getting my head around how it all works. This is the first car I've owned thats worth putting any money and effort into. So yes turbos apparently are an option so what should I expect to outlay for a decent and reliable turbo system that can deliver a big power improvement keeping in mind its still my daily driver?

Thanks :-)

Honestly, I don't want to sound like a "been there, done that" asshole, but I have done it before. I put a turbo kit on my stagea, which is the V35 equilivent. I then removed it, because it was a daily, and bought a proper track car.

To be honest I don't know what's available for the vq35HR, as I don't think it has the range of forced induction options the VQ35de has.

You are correct, your car has a VQ35HR. My car has a VQ35DE. 350z came with both, the later models being the HR model, earlier being DE.

For an idea, have a look at some of the V and/or Z forced induction builds on various forums, to give you an idea on what your in for if you want to go down that path.

A quick search showed that GTM have a SC kit for the HR v36 at least in LHD form.

My logic behind it all was even though I enjoyed what I had, it wasn't ever going to be a track car, which is where my interest headed. Hence why I sold off the turbo kit, and bought a more dedicated car.

Thanks PN.

. I've got alot of research to do I think and realistically it will be a while before I get enough cash together to dive in and get it done properly but I appreciate your info.

"Congrats on post 8000 :)"

Haha, it's not about how many posts you have, it is how long you have been around for *cough SAU member number 669 joined 25 Jul 2002* (when many members on here had not yet had their first pimple yet) :)

I would stay away from dealing with GTM altogether. They make quality products but there are issues that arose where people didnt receive their purchase even after a year.

Stillen SC kits are pretty good. Direct bolt on.

AAM Competition and Fast Intensions have pretty good turbo kits.

I'd say SC would be less f**king around. But do it :)

The HUGE problem is that any variety of bolt-on kit is going to only be run at very low boost unless you open the motor and spend a SIGNIFICANT amount of money. The Stillen Stage 2 kits costs around $10k landed from the USA (once you factor in shipping, duites and gst) plus fitting, and only nets around a 35-40% power increase.

Results are VERY mixed all over the internet. This is one set of results of a Stage 3 kit:

Baseline:....242.5 hp @ 5800 rpm 239.4 ft/lbs @ 4600 rpm
Stillen:.......338.2 hp @ 6600 rpm 302.6 ft/lbs @ 4200 rpm

The real fun starts with the VQ35 when the motor is properly built/decompressed and you can run some decent boost. As we all know, 7psi is for pussies. Turbo kits seem to make quite a bit more power too.

I know of a 350Z here in Adelaide that ran 350rwkw with an APS twin turbo kit on an unopened motor - for a little while until he grenaded it.

But I also know of a V35 with a Stage 1 HKS superchager kit that was still only doing 14 second 1/4 mile times, so was not much quicker than a lightly modified stocker without f.i.

The answer is, if you want a luxury cruiser with a little bit of poke, mod your V35 to 180rwkw and enjoy it. If you want a car with real power, sell it and buy a GTR. Simple as that :)

Thanks Nightcrawler.

Believe me if i had the cash i would go the GTR in a heart beat but for now i'm sticking with this "family car" ;)

I thought my V36 was running about 230kw from the factory already but maybe i'll just start buy getting it dyno'd to see what i'm starting with and then go from there. Anyone have any recommended places in sydneys west, blue mountains, or hawkesbury area?

    • Hi, i’m making a rb25det coil loom for Vag short coil. Can anybody tell me which Ecu signal wire belong to coil number 1 and 2,3,4,5,6? The connecting switch in above pic is 8 wire i think white is for +12v and black for earth.

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
