hey my alternator is screwed on my rb25det, i read that people are upgrading with a bigger nissan quest 110a to 120a alternator and they have to grind a hole out on the alternator and make a custom bracket for it to fit on an rb25det.

Has anyone here done this and did they make the bracket or buy one from somewhere?

Do you really need a bigger amp one? They really aren't necessary 99% of the time. Maybe if you had a massive stereo but even then I still think its overkill. Standard ones work fine for almost all applications

Quest was an American spec Nissan van/people mover With a V6 VG33 under the lid . We only got that engine in from memory D50 petrol Pathfinders but not the Quest higher output alternator .

Also alternator brackets even on VG's differ depending on what car they came in and whether it was oriented upside down or not - meaning adjuster bracket facing up or down . Late V6 accessories/drives can be a nightmare .

Even so the Quest alternator needs mods and there are write ups on American boards like fresh alloy.com .

The thing people who haven't played with these higher output Japanese alternators often don't realise is that they are larger in diameter than your typical Nissan RB/SR/KA 90s era ones and they can be a pain to wrestle into place like around an RBs lower radiator hose . They are also appreciably heavier than an OE one . Some mite say so what but if you have to drain/refill/bleed cooling systems it isn't a simple R&R anymore .

Also Nissan made life hard by casting the RBs lower alternator mount into the block rather than using a bolted on bracket like the older L series block has . what comes off can easily be replaced with something to suit a non std alternator in an ideal location .

To be honest I solved all my problems by having the std RB25 (33) alternator rebuilt with new regulator and diode pack , and using a larger capacity battery . Admittedly I don't have high demand pumps or sound systems and if I could track down a reasonably priced GTR alternator I'd freshen it up and use that .

BTW when your auto sparky can't find a reference to an R33 GTS25T alternators part number tell them to cross reference EB Falcon six parts because their std alt is internally similar/same . .

I think GTR alternators had an extra 10a output capacity , 90a , and I'm not sure what was internally different probably minor rotor upgrade .

brand new Circuit Sports Alternator can be had under 350 delivered from the US when there are sales on FRSport.

They're also 90 amp, not to mention brand new.

Solved all my voltage drops and misfire issues, yay!

Hi Mick

you can get a ( Advance high efficiency alternator 150amp rating) from www.rhdjapan.com alternator's are not bigger in dimensions than original ones as long as u

quote correct model of vehicle

u have an R33 GTST s2 I see , so u would have to quote for your car / GTS25 ECR33 ( Kouki - 1/96 - 5/98 ) Eng: RB25DET ,

to get correct part they are direct bolt on replacement no drilling extra large holes,

but make sure u have 8mm battery cabling or bigger to carry extra current

your r33 should 8mm standard

only thing bad is that there currently worth between $ 868-00 to $897-00 before freight

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
