My favourite event of the year. In the R32GTST with 235 rwkw we were turning into the right hand kink for the Chase at 230 kph, no need to back off. Then it accelerates a little more down the slight incline before the hard braking for the Chase itself. I haven't done the Mountain Straight Hillclimb for 10 years at least, I always luck out and get the Essess Hillclimb. I am trying to keep that weekend free so we can get there, in either car, it will be fun.

Cheers

Gary

Do they start in exactly the same spot every year? I got a really good launch and beat a supercharged 450kw XR8 to the chase by about half a car length and was only just over 200km/h through there. I have 250 odd rwkw and the weight of a 4 door R34 though.

sounds about right. My R32 GTR with only pods, exhaust and Mines ECU got to about 200-210kph IIRC. I've been there twice - 2003 & 2005 - they started at the same place. A much lighter stripped GTST with similar power doing 230kph sounds about right.

I'd be keen to come back down again this year if the budget allows - towing a car that far isn't getting any cheaper!

OMG what an eventful weekend! :worship: I think I am hooked on hillclimbs now!

The car went really well, I only got 3 runs in before it started to hail and rain.. I did a 32.96 on street tyres and we were all having issues with traction. Greg (Stretch) did a 29.53 and he was having traction issues as well :D Michelle (Ladybytes) was there as well in her open wheeler but not sure what times she was getting! That thing sounds tough coming up the hill!!

I got some good practices on launching the car and by the third run had them nailed. I think I might of gassed the guy out that chocks your wheel for you getting ready for my launch! :)

You were right Harry it's a pretty steep hill you start on..I think I need a switch that changed from 2wd to 4wd so I can do a burn out before the start line!

Will definately be doing that event again, I found it exciting and a bit of an adrenalin rush cause there are walls all around you!

Bring on December! :D

It was a lot of fun... I didn't get to my 3rd run, I was in the lineup for my 3rd and ended up with a lap full of hail. I did 28.24 but there was definitely room for improvement on where to do some of my gear changes.

I heard they are having another one around 31st August- two days, Saturday supersprints (two cars at a time) down Conrod straight to the pit straight start line and then Sunday, the same hillclimb we did yesterday (well, tried to do before the hail).

I'm going to try to be there in August and again in Nov for the Australian Hillclimb Championships and whats this one you're talking about in Dec?

Come in August Jess! I love seeing the Skylines running.

The start...

good one! glad to hear it went well

Thanks Harry!! Was great fun and worth the 400km trip and freezing cold to do 3mins worth of racing :)

Yeah I just did my third run when it started to rain and choose to put the car on the trailer as was slippery enough with out the hail :worship: That's a great time Michele I wanted to try and get into the "20's" will next time and will try out some soft semi slicks as well. I was on the limit of the street tyres!

I can't do August as I have a skidpan event on at EC :D Will try Nov (if I dont do dutton rally) and get Chubbs to come with me..The one in December is the speed weekend!

Great Pics, will put up my in car footage tonite, I only filmed one run as I had trouble with the camera :D

Wonder if there are any pics of my car floating around, I did a big flame on my second run up the top of the hill :)

The R32GTST back then was pretty light, RB20DET, small gearbox, no roll cage etc about 1180 kgs with a little fuel and no driver. So over 200 kgs lighter than an R34, it had some pretty sticky development tyres on it as well. Plus the R32 speedo was a little happy compared to the Power FC Commander. It will be interesting to compare it with the PI data now, although an extra couple of hundred kw's make the comparison a bit difficult.

hehe it doesn't make much sense when you put it like that, but it feels worth it at the time!

nice looking open wheeler Michele. what's in it?

Well done guys..i mean girls...hope to see you late Nov.

Cool, Thanks Harry!!

I compete in supersprints pretty regulary, but havent done any bathurst ones yet!

I'm really keen to try it out as your opion is exactly what I have heard from everyone else :(

I didn't know you were doing the nsw supersprints this year? how are you going? I try to get out to most of them but haven't seen anyone I know there from SAU really.

The results are up now http://www.blcc.com.au/dmdocuments/results...mb%20270708.pdf

hmm link works for me. Results are on their home page rather than their 'Results' page at this stage.

Isn't the other Skyline in your group a GTST? if so, it shouldn't be in SV, its not 4wd... or was there another GTR there on the day?

    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
