Alright, before you flame this post, here me out.

I've been searching for a series 2 with an R34 front end for a while now, and it seems the only one readily available is this one..
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/burwood/cars-vans-utes/1999-nissan-stagea-masa-gt-r-r34-orange-manual-wagon/1110204504

I've read the reviews and I'm aware the guy who owns the shop is scummy. I'm not doubting this. This car in question was in fact a demo car from MASA over in japan. I've driven it and it's smooth. The R34 seats a little low, but nothing I can do about that. I have the owner fella, phil?, agreeing to take it to a shop of MY picking for a third party inspection. He is that confident that it will come out in great health. He even has a copy of the original export papers that show the mileage very close to what the car currently sits at (super rare to find with this seller the internet tells me).
We have a price on $16,000 for it.

I'm from BC, canada and that price is pretty steep for an R34 converted stagea, however, from my search over here, I'm finding it could actually be a good deal.

Thoughts? I'm open to hear both sides of the fence any of you sit on.

Saw that car sitting in the locked/closed yard today actually....just in case you weren't aware Edward Lees was shut down for fraud / winding back odometers. This one, right? http://www.edwardlees.com.au/Vehicle/nissan-stagea-wagon-1999-25416

Doesn't mean the car isn't a good deal, but certainly dont trust anything you are told, particularly because this sale would be beyond the reach of NSW Fair Trading department.

"Call Edward Lee's 02 97440539 Mobile 0416285333 Phil Lee

We deliver Australia wide.
Established 1966"

Should finish with "Shut down 2016"

saw this AD and real car in their yard for 2-3months since they imported it. :yes:

they asking $26999 -> $16999 -> $19999

for my opinion, check import paper at least due to everyone here knows "Edward Lee" style ODO number....

anyway, it is good car, original motor. i think $12000-$14000 is good price.

good luck mate :cheers::cheers:

I agree. Do the appropriate checks yourself using people you can trust and never trust proven con artists. :)

Wow that also looks like I'm giving advice for anyone asking about Joseph Smith :P

For **** sakes. Don't hit the delete button on the keyboard, otherwise your entire reply will get deleted :angry:

Sorry about the link. I'll see if the one for his actual website works better
Try this? http://www.edwardlees.com.au/Vehicle/nissan-stagea-wagon-1999-25416

As for the ODO tampering, google told me about that before I decided to check it out. Import papers show it came in with 110,xxx kilmoters, car currently has 107,xxx kilometers, he's had it for roughly a year, so I'm guessing he rolled it back to 100,000.
To compound the shady practice, he tried to sweeten the deal with a full 3 year comprehensive warranty if i bought the car that day. Seemed too good to be true, so i googled the company and read all the fine print. Insurance company requires vehicles to be less than 10 years old, bone stock with no modifications, and serviced by a profession mechanic every 5000 kilometers. So, yeah cool, thanks for the warranty, but it's void as soon as the is driven off his lot...

Yeah, i could do a R34 conversion myself, except I just don't want to tackle the project size to be honest. I've done two skylines back in Canada, and I just don't want to deal with it haha. Looking for one with the work already completed.

Is there any more information about him going completely out of business? The most I could find is that he's in a battle with the NSW government. A battle I don't see him winning, but nothing that says he will be closing his doors this year.

Treat it like a private sale from a mates mate who you know is dodgy.

Came in with 110k now has 107k, might have done another 50k or more in the mean time.....

Expect no warranty or guarantee or follow up support.

Check the car out, have it thoroughly inspected by your chosen mechanic.

If your still happy with the negotiated price, buy it and be happy, and deal with any problems that arise like you would if it was a private sale.

As someone who's name is Joseph Smith I'm offended.

Thanks for the input guys. I wont treat this sale as one from a dealership, so no worries there. I've read reviews about lee on the internet and am fully aware about his ways.
With that said, if any of you are considering selling a series 2 with the r34 front end and 5 speed, let me know. Keeping money within communities is always priority one. Just so happens nothing else is available.

    • I was 99% sure the standard one is long enough to get there, you might just have to change the throttle orientation. If not, I remember someone having used an r31 cable instead, but that is probably harder to find than r33 by now...
    • HELP   Hey all, Is there an accelerator cable from another Nissan that can be used on the R33 GTST RB25DET with a Greddy forward facing plenum?  Thanks in advance  Rob

    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
