I could save so much if I didn't open it but I think it's worth the safety haha

Haven't heard anything bad about the 1.3mm cometic HG so think I'll stick with that one

FYI.. Matt Wooten makes probably same power as myself and regularly tracks his car too.. he doesn't even have head studs and the motor is still performing (Neo motor).

No need to pop the head and do a headgasket if you're not shooting north of 400kW in my opinion.. and if you get close to that, time to build the rest of the bottom end.

I was thinking of actually asking him a few questions too about his build!

Just wanted mine to be safer if I accrued the extra cash and if I had the patience

are you racing your car?

are you tracking it?

if it's just a streeter with some drag racing just drop in studs and torque them up well and spend the remainder of your cash on hookers, cocaine and molly LOL...jk.. buy a decent radiator, oil cooler and a 1.5/2 way LSD to put the power down.

Will mainly be a weekender, occassional drag and it might see the track once every 2-3 years

Love your other ideas though haha!

But I do plan on getting an ASI rad and China spec cooler as mentioned in my other thread :)

Hi bro. The reps leak better off getting the real deal.. if you go onto golebys site you can get any spring rate you want.. i just changed my 2 bolt wastegate to the 45mm vband style and to what spring rating you need have a chat to ya tuner.. Cheers

How much boost and rpm do you plan on running?

If it's 18-22 psi and 7000rpm don't do anything to the head just get at gt3076r or similar sized turbo with external gate. If you plan on running around 25 plus Padi and around 8000rpm to keep it reliable will cost quite a bit more than just head studs and valve springs

Plan on getting the ATR45 external gate which is equivalent to the 3076 :)

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
