BOV leak? Induction sound help!!

Hi skyline aficionados.

I am fairly new in Aus and recently I bought a r33 s1 gtst rb25det.

About a week ago I was cruising around and a cop pulled me over, the usual story, drivers license, open the bonnet etc (ok, I wasn't cruising)

Everything was good until he gave me a yellow sticker, this was new to me, who would have thought that in Aus the cops are also mechanics..

Anyway, today I took the car to the pits and it failed because of missing mesh in IC, tyres with low tread a pod filter without permit and a blow off valve.

All of the above can be fixed quite easily with the exception of the blow off valve..

The engine is practically stock, just have aftermarket IC, the pod and the boost valve is bypassed, the blow off valve is stock.

The car does indeed have a massive induction noise, which is why the inspector complained..

I don't need to rev a lot to start hearing that induction sound and at some times (seems to be only in constant rpm) the sound seems to be slightly metallic, if I just push the throttle the sound keeps going up until I lift it and i ear normal turbo flutter, not the pigeon sound just the normal decompression.

Could this be the stock BOV leaking? a boost leak? the pod filter??

The only odd thing that I see is the boost valve bypass, its not the usual grounding the black wire and leave the hoses.

Instead I have the wastegate connected directly to the hose that comes from the turbo and goes to the IC, the top connector on the valve has nothing on it and the bottom one is connected to the intake (after the IC) will post some pics later.

Long story short I just want the noise gone otherwise i might as well ask for a job at the pits since i'll be there all the time.

Since this is my first post and I feel bad to ask without giving something I OCR'ed the entire R33 manual to make it search friendly (will make another post)

Thank you all

check to see if the bov has been blocked. People put a piece of tin at the bottom of the bov to block it and make it do pigeon noises. Replacing the pod filter with a factory airbox will also reduce any induction noise and flutter.

Get a boost gauge. Your boost may or may not be above normal - either way you need to know. And as above get a stock airbox - less noise, same power, less hassle..... and check your BOV

    • Crazy how good the aero bar looks compared to the stock one
    • Yes, but you will need to rewire all the things that are different. CAS, coils, etc. Yes, but there is no IAT. What? You can use anything you like. It just has to be hooked up so that it will work.     Or are you wanting to just plug and play without having to do any thinking/work?
    • It's been a little over a decade since I bought the S15. As I did on my socials, I'll share some of my favorite pictures from over the years further below. If you haven't realised, pretty much all the pictures in my posts are ones I've taken.  In terms of updates, I don't have pictures, but I acquired a near-perfect pair of fog lights from a friend of mine, so those got swapped in for the pair I already had. As for the JZX110, I just got it back from being fixed. A few weeks back, I was on the highway when I suddenly drove over something with very little time to react. It was probably the size of a soccer ball, but it went under the car and banged into the underside pretty loudly. I pulled over and realized the fluid leaking was fuel, and of course, it was right near my exhaust. This required replacing the fuel tank. If you happen to be in the same predicament, thankfully this car shares a fuel tank with the JZS171, IS200, and IS300, so it wasn't too painful to replace. Enjoy some pictures as mentioned above, including the carnage from the fuel tank and a bonus picture I came across which shows how ridiculously shiny the Bugels are on the 110. So many more pictures I could share of the S15 but this will do for today, enjoy.
