RB25Neo/30

A bit stuck, done a search but just confusing the f**k out of me.

Got an RB25Neo/30 in my R32. Using the rb20 loom, got a coil conversion loom and rewired the injectors.

When it comes to the ECU, what can I actually run? From what I have worked out there is a GTRLink that I can use as it's the same ecu plug.

Found a Vipec V88 for a neo, that won't plug in though will it? How do I get around this as it's a good price.

cheers.

Hi mate

you only have 2 sort of easy choices here.

1. Remove the loom, and install a RB25 NEO loom to run with the Neo Vipec.
2. Get a GTRLink / Vipec. These fit all GTR models, and the R32 and R33 GTS-T.

Any other way will only be a huge bitch.

You could get yourself a brand new wiring specialties Neo harness. Would cost about $1k but then you have a new loom.

Personally, since later model Neos have fairly new looms in then, just grab a factory one of those nice and cheap

When you say get a GTRLink/Vipec which Vipec is this that will work?

Vipec and Link are the same thing / same hardware. Vipec is actually gone now, absorbed back into Link.

Vipec "V" series = Link G4
Vipec "i" series = Link G4+

You want the model of vipec or link that fits the GTR. It also fits the RB20. (It's a one ECU fits all)

The GTRLink / GTRVipec fits everything except for the Neo as that has a different plug.

Damn this one fits a neo, that's a no go.

Thanks heaps mate.

There is no RB25 Nistune so if you have an RB20 Nistune that will work although it will not control your VCT.

If you get a Neo ecu and loom you can get a GTT  LinkECU to put inside the Neo case which would be ideal...it can control your VCT and with a solenoid better control boost.

I have the same dilemma with a rb20de cefiro. It's auto and I want to keep it auto. Can I use a link rb26rb20 plugin? Do they have a built-in map sensor to do away with afm?

I don't know where the auto ecu is on your cefiro. If it is in the main engine ecu then no you will not be able to use the GTR Link. Why don't you get a wire in Link instead and yes you can use a map sensor with it.

Do you know how to find out? Will it be in the same location behind kick panel where main ecu is?

I have an rb25 det manual loom and ECU, should I fit that and get a manual valve body for the auto to do away with the auto electrics? Then I could fit a plugin ECU .

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm running a 2530 neo in my r32 gts4, basically had to do a small amount of soldering for tps and idle valve and coil harness. Add in a wire for vct
Can use pretty much any plug in ecu for r33 r32 gtst or gtr. Some need an injector pin swaped around and if using GTr or 32 gtst ecu need a way to control vct, so rpm window switch or if using an r32 gtst nistune then use the feature pack and it let's you control it like stock
I use an adaptronic select on mine personally.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
