Of course they're still relevant, the later firmware allows you to run a flex sensor directly into it and with the expansion harness you're able to do a bit more without the need of installing an I/O expansion box.

A few limitations of the Platinum are lack of support DBW, inability to run any style of trigger/crank/cam kit, no rolling anti-lag, no traction control, strain gauge input for sequential or dog boxes etc.

I would still use it, but brand new the price point between that and the Elite, one would jump onto the Elite.

Yes only Platinum comes as a plug-in, all Elite ECUs are generic and require a patch harness.

With the Platinum Plugin, I recommend running an external MAP sensor. The internal one is only 2.5 bar, which means it can only read 1.5bar of boost. Anything above that will flat line.

Was it a firmware update or hardware update?

Certainly a good plug and play option for a non extreme car, easy enough to get tuned aswell

firmware, just bring the ECU back to haltech.. I believe they also delete a resistor on the ECU too, but when I got it done for a customer it was free :)

Speak to either James or Alanah (his wife) at GameOn Motorsports. They're good on price and support.

If your creative you can create your own form of traction control using the speed limiter function

1. Create the table using gear and rpm as your axis

2. Populate the tables, inputting the speed that you would achieve in each gear vs rpm with no wheel spin

3. In the main setup for the speed limiter, set the tolerance say 5 kph with ignition as the limit method

4. Then you can play with the ignition cut %, say start around 30% - 50% for a nice soft cut. See what works for you by adjusting the % cut

I run a pro plug in, no complaints here :)

Sounds like a hardware update to me. Good to see they're able to update previous models. They are a pretty good option for your typical mild street upgrades etc.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
    • Also wanted to say, my new spark plugs are blackened looks like it's very rich. I have splitfire coilpacks but stock coilpack loom and ignitor. I tried directly grounding the ignitor ground to body as well.
