Hello all

Way back in 2003, in my mid 20’s, I purchased a relatively stock, low km’s, very clean 1997 R33 GTS-T “Type-M” Skyline with sunroof, when I was living in South Australia (as pictured). Only mods were the steering wheel, body kit (not sure what type it is), cat back exhaust, Tein suspension and a great set of Volk Racing wheels.

After about 6 months of ownership, I added a GReddy FMIC (purchased from Perfect Run), turbo back exhaust, heavy duty clutch, camber kit and earthing kit (seemed like a good idea) courtesy of Car Toys.

Long story short, despite only having modest power mods done, I enjoyed that car immensely but ultimately sold it after only 2.5 years ownership because I thought I was getting “too old” for a car like that (I know, crazy). It was sold to a good friend of mine, who then sold it onto a friend of his after only 12 months, who soon after crashed/wrote-off the car.

Some material things you can enjoy, sell, then move on to the next thing. For me, as much as I thought I’d be ok after selling it, turned out to be one of my biggest regrets.

I’m currently the very happy owner of a modified 2017 GT Mustang, but over the last few months have been having vivid dreams about driving my old R33, so much so, that I’m seriously considering getting another that resembles the old one as close as possible.

I guess this is my mid-life crisis coming to bear.

Welcome Tim,

That was a sweet looking 33 what a shame its gone. Don't believe its mid-life crisis, just good old human regret. I,m still kicking myself for selling a mint Kawasaki Z900 which the guy promptly wrapped around a car, Ah regrets.

I dont think you're the only one with sellers remorse. I think I have regrets about selling all my skylines. :(

Stuff the 'too old' thing, just drive what makes you happy. The good news is that you can get a clean, lightly modified R33 Gtst now for fairly low amounts.

I'm on the verge of extinction myself but really miss my S1 C34. I spent a fortune over the years turning it into a fairly quick sleeper daily driver, fun track car, while still using it as a work horse carrying 8 x 4 panels on the roof,  massive deep freeze inside and towing car transporters. Sadly had to sell during a financial crisis to a plumber who bought it for his sons, one of whom wrote it off by wrapping it round a tree within a week ? (they are a strong car, he survived...).

    • How many of you guys run the synchro os giken set and at what power? Do you then also use the billet plate?  How is it launching with it, any dragy times from 0-60? 60ft?
    • Oh, also, forgot to add these photos I believe.
    • Thought i'd update on this. I was able to get in contact with Craig Lieberman and later on Darryl Alison (owner of Kaizo Industries). Darryl was able to help me verify that my car was in fact one of theirs and is helping me find more info on mine !
    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
