Hey all,

I am currently in the process of building an RB30DET Neo and was planning to re-use my oil pump as it is an N1 type...

However, upon removal, the drive gear face looks like it's been slapping against the crank on the edge so looks like I'll need some billet gears. (previous owner must have like the limiter...)

Housing does look ok, but there are 2 wear marks? that I can feel.

Do yas reckon the housing is still usable? I am trying to avoid buying a new N1 type oil pump as I've read they are not of the same quality...

Cheers!

Daniel

Get a new housing, I made the mistake of using an old housing with billet gears and this was the result.

Must have been a mixture of free play and version 1 of the Spool gears. I'm on the second version with a brand new N1 housing and it's been good since.

hey guys, thanks for the advice! appreciate it :)

Wow Johnny, those gears are completely cooked ?

GTSBoy, yes that is true, my initial thoughts were to either put a new N1 pump or re-use the original housing if viable just not to double up on costs. My next question I guess would be, were those claims of "not good" ever really verified or just a he said/she said scenario?

If I was to build a motor again (hope I never do it again) then straight up Nitto oil pump with their collar.

A poor man, pays twice. I've bought 2x sets of Spool gears, 1x brand new N1 oil pump.

All that equals a new Nitto oil pump with change left over.

GTSBoy, yes that is a fair point too. I guess it is hard to verify on public forums lol.

Too true Johnny, I did fathom the Nitto pump as they are amazing and have very good reputation but the $$$, and totally agree the poor man pays twice, ouch!

Thanks for the advice and conversation gents! Now off to ponder the decision to make...

Ah good old RB life.

    • With the system, once you drive it for a bit, and before you turn the car off, does the car fix its date and time? When you say the date is wrong, what date does the vehicle think it is, and does it always show the same date? My thoughts from a process driven view is; The system may be defaulting to a standard start date/time. The main reason you'd typically see this occuring, is the system is losing its constant/backup power supply.   If its always defaulting to the same date/time at start up, and especially if it fixes itself while driving, I'd say either the non volatile memory has an issue, or the power supply to the volatile memory that stores this information.   The other thing I'd check is if there is anywhere in the system you can adjust the date and time from. If the date/time is still moving forward since it wished you happy new year, then it is 100% possible the system has just had a bit of data corruption occur, and you likely need to find a way to reset the date/time in the vehicle.
    • Scissor Jacks are an accident waiting to happen, the only time they should be used are in an roadside flat, even then a tyre and rim should be placed underneath
    • You know how your car rolled through a fence in your last jacking escapade? Scissor jacks increase the likely hood of that sort of thing happening immensely!

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
