Hey guys and girls

After my bro wrote off his r33 my parents said no performance cars until 18. And now time has come im nilly 18 and have been looking at cars since i was 16. I know alot of stuff about thses 2 cars as im very interested in them for a while. I have got about $16000 to spend which i rekon is good for an 18 year old who works in a supermarket :) so please help me by giving me your opinion on whats best and if you have had one what are common problems. I have searched and found alot of s14s but realise they have alot of kilometers whats with this as r32 which are older cars most often have less kilometers.

so thank you for your time please help me.

i found a s14 series 1 with NEW gearbox, NEW clutch, NEW fuel pump , NEW exhaust from the turbo back, NEW air filter, NEW GFB Stealth blow off valve, NEW Pivot Turbo Timer (receipts for all service work and parts). The rear spoiler has been removed and holes patched up, i have the rear spoiler to come with the car also i have a spare front bumper to go with this car, that has never been added onto the car. its $14000 with 120000kms i think this is a good buy what do you guys rekon

IMO if you get a car with over 100000kms, i'll be prepared or start saving just in case the engine goes and needs a rebuild, just ensure that they've done the 100000km service being Timing Belt, water pump and all the other belts associated with it.

R32 although a bit order look nice i reckon and i like the (oo_oo) lights hehe

S14 series 1 i rather not, S14a series 2 i would prefer, its your choice but thats my 2c

Unless its a S14a (s2) I dont think I would waste the time with the S14. What will the car be used for? how long do you plan on keeping it ect? If you cant have a "performace" car untill your older, why not just buy a normal car (eg ford/holden ect) untill you are able to buy one? plus by that time, you should have more saved up and should be able to buy just what you want.

My .02cents.

i looked in to insurance and found s14s are cheaper , i want the car for cruising and going out at nite and for going to work and stuff like that my bro said i can use his civic which is sweet , my plan is to have the car for probably a year with a few lite mods such as a kit , front mount and some suspension then i will probably have new prioraties

I found s14's were more expensive to insure even not being an import.

Good luck finding a good condition r32 interior anyway they dont exist every single interior i have seen has had some kind of flaw. R32 will never b as quick as an s14 with the same mods. Im in the same position as you and have decided on an s14 but only bcoz its newer and i cant find any good condition r32's.

Either way they are a good car, but spending more on a newer car is probably the smarter way to go. As well as parts for s14s and sr's being more plentiful.

P.S who did you get prices for insurance from?

Easy: Buy a car thats quicker than both of them.. An s13! Infact i'm selling mine as I'm upgrading to a GTR.

looks better than the s14, is quicker and is more throwable than the s14/r32, even in stock form.. you'll also have enough money left over to spend on mods to make it a weapon.

R32 wins the looks prize, but buying an sr20det s13 for 13k and buying a fmic, pod, boost controller with change to spare.. the car will murder the other two. :P

    • Thank you, 100% the intent. New coils were due and the 17" sixers look/feel loads better than the stock wheels. The aero options are so spot on.   Thanks for the warm welcome, all!
    • 98 r34 gtt Been rocking my latest setup and car running like never before. Have put a good 200 miles on it since all the latest changes and additions. everything is dialed in and have been driving it a bunch.   However, all a sudden last weekend as soon as I pushed throttle passed 4k and the engine stumbles, (slow or fast acceleration) hesitates and doesn’t go above 4100 or so, like a misfire. Everything else seems fine. I had a “good” set of coil packs that I removed from car when I first got it when I changed them over to new coils. I swapped out current ones for those, but no change. I also changed the plugs, no change. Seems to rev over 4 when out of gear with no load just fine no “misfire”, but as soon as its in gear with a load of any kind, it “misfires” as soon as rpm drop back below 4 k it runs perfectly, smooth, starts, restarts and drives fine as long as I keep it below 4 k while in gear. All readings look fine, no CEL   Any idea as to what could all a sudden cause an issue when pushing rpms passed 4 k?
    • When you say your cams are 272/262 is that 272in and 262ex?
    • We're arguing semantics. I am saying 45 accel and a 55 deccel ramp are "2 ways". Even a 45 degree ramp and an 89 degree ramp is "2 ways", because it is literally... two ways. The cusco 55/30 ramp is a 2 way. It's two ways. I get it though - in normal nomenclature a "2 way" would be 45/45 or 55/55 or 60/60 i.e the same locking in both directions. And something like 45/65 would be considered "1.5 way". I would then say if we're getting into the nitty gritty then every locking diff is a "2 way" diff and we should not speak in 1.5, or 2 ways but ramp angles instead. Which ofc if one of those ramp angles is 90deg, that side is not doing any locking. :p So Nismo don't obviously sell 3 things. The fact of the matter that they only sell two items really goes to show that there's a 2 way and a "1,5 way" which is really a 1 way. I believe the actual lockup for the 'adjustability' of the GT pro is really just setting preload for when the ramps actually start locking up. It's not changing how much 'wayness' there is. It is (somehow) horribly explained. People just buy whatever diff and go "locks up good bruh" and that's what ends up on socials forever.
