For people who are wanting 200rwkw out of their "stockish" RB25DET heres something to consider. The dyno graphs below represent my car on 2 different dynos.

The first one was done December 03 on a 20degC day and made 153rwkw. Mods were:

* bleed valve @ 13psi

* Chipped stock R33 ECU

* Turbo back zorst (with crppy compliance cat)

* K&N panel filter

The sencond one was done June 04 on a 10 deg day and made 195rwkw.

For a bit of fun, lets see if you can tell me where the extra 42rwkw came from :)

come on dude, tell us.

I am on my way, just waiting for the tune now. The Powerfc on factory maps = 200km out of a tank.

I have -

Split Dump all the wat to the Cat

Hi Flow Cat

3"5 Exhaust, 4 inch Cannon

Front Mount Intercooler (stock plenum and BOV)

Partitioned Pod Filter

HKS Exhaust cam Pulley (not fitted yet)

Apexi Power FC + Hand Controller

Bleed Valve set at 10psi

18" 235 Treads

10% Mix of Toluene

Stock Turbo

Currently on about 150rwkw

Aiming for 200 - 210rwkw after the Tune. Apparently its very possible.

ones a dyno dynamics.. the other is the dynologics.. and lets guess that the dynodynamics might be in shootout mode correct? and maybe has some temp correction thrown in for good measure..

do i get some candy?

good pratical illustration though rigga :thumbsup:

That’s why people who trying and argue, that their car is faster because it puts out more power on a dyno. Is a load of bull. I have seen similar cases of a car on one dyno putting out 320hp and on a different dyno putting out 360hp. With nothing changed to the car.

If people say that their car is quicker because it puts out more power then mine I laugh. The argument stop on the ROAD!! You could have a car that does 700hp between 7 – 8k rpm and a 300hp car with a power range of 4 – 7k rpm I reckon the 300hp car would beat it over a ¼ mile. But the guy with the 700hp car can still claim that he’s is quicker because his car puts out 400hp more……. ???? Am I right in saying that ?

In other wirds RiggaP has shown a good example of that, Cheers Mate.

Gordy, Quite easy really:D Shootout mode dyno provide a list of details at the bottom of the screen, which records intake temps, ambient temps etc. Shootout mode 2003 has green writing down the bottom, but this is no longer current. Shootout mode 2004 has blue writing and has an '04 logo. These dyno can no longer be manipulated to provide higher readings.

Shootout mode dyno provide a list of details at the bottom of the screen, which records intake temps, ambient temps, yada, yada, yada

yup, I sort of know that :thumbsup: - but I was thinking maybe rigga had photoshopped these details out to make it another interesting point of discussion.. which it is already :)

I have noticed this over time the extra details on each printout. As part of their dyno "subscription" (purchase/rental/lease?) are the dyno operators required to get the new software with each update.. or is it optional?

Take it to a Shootout dyno to get consistant results.

Common, you know that's not true, I can get perfectly consistent results running a DD not in Shootout Mode. After all, I can set the parameters exactly the same as Shootout mode, the only difference is that they are locked and displayed. That does not mean that they are not set correctly. I believe that the Shootineers Code of Conduct is far more important to consistency than a piece of software.

Sorry, that might sound a bit harsh, but I am getting a bit tired of DD shoving Shootot mode down everybody's neck as if it's the be all and end all of dyno's. :thumbsup:

The cat.

Correct. This was the only mod done between dyno runs.

ones a dyno dynamics.. the other is the dynologics..

Also correct, and forms the very reason.

So heres my point; Dynos are a tuning tool. Anyone chasing a dyno figure is missing the point IMO. As my example has pointed out, you could achieve 150rwkw at one place then have another place "retune" the car and achieve 195 without effectively doing anything. I'm not sure anyone with half a twit is going to argue you can get 42rwkw by adding a high flow cat.

A dyno figure is not going to give you any idea how fast the car is going to be, and because of this, dont mean squat.

    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
