Hi Guys,

On Friday 17TH of September 2004, I was travelling through the Burnley tunnel at approximately 2:45pm-3:00pm. Due to an earlier accident everyone experienced delays and the original speed of 80km’s was reduced to 40km’s.

I was travelling in the middle lane and I felt a bump in the back of my car, within a split second I did a head check to see what it was and before I could do anything a truck made impact with my car again, pushing me further up my lane on an angle. As I was being pushed further up in my lane I was forced sideways, with my (drivers) door facing the front of the truck. I repeatedly pushed my horn. The truck was merging into the middle lane from the right lane.

The truck had come to a halt and I got out of the car and went over to the truck. Being as stunned as I was of the whole situation, I opened his door and said “What the hell do you thing you are doing?” he looked at me as though he didn’t do anything wrong. We then decided to move out of the way of other traffic and move into the right lane. That was unsuccessful as my car would not start. We then began to talk about what happened. He admitted to feeling a bump, and also not being able to see me. He told me his indicator was on and I said that my car was in front of his. I told him to look at my car as the damage has occurred to the rear, which implies that my car was in front of his. I apologised for the way I was feeling and said I have never been in an accident with someone before. I then asked if I could see his license and take down his details which I did, and in exchange gave him mine. During that period of time a witness approached me and gave me his name and mobile number, he claimed to have seen the whole thing.

After that incident occurred a city link truck pushed me out of the tunnel and into the emergency lane where I waited for a tow truck to pick me up. Angelo from Melbourne Transport Service towed my car to Eurostyle Bodymaster where my car is currently kept. When I arrived to Eurostyle I then called my employer David Powell of Elders Insurance Limited and explained the situation to him. I have asked Eurostyle to provide a quote to fix my car.

I still can't believe the accident, something similar happened with a mate of mine also.

I do think that after he bumped me he did try to get around me to try and get away but because I was right there i got stuck to him.

I would like to thank him for his inconvenience, now I could be without a car for 2 months or so.

Take it easy

Mark

I can understand that they are in such big vehicles, although for them not being able to see other vehicles on the road would make it un road worthy. Although they are sitting so high up which alows them to see alot more than in a car.

I happy in a way that my car kind of stuck to the front of his truck because he dragged me about 10 meters up the road and I think he was trying to get away. Tell me you wouldn't notice a car stuck on the front of the truck.

Take it easy

P.S Be careful on the roads, I consider myself lucky in this incident. He so easily could have pushed into my door when he decided to stop and I the it would have been serious.

I believe it was a fuse, as when the car was towed to the pannel shop they got it started after they checked the fuses.

I am going to get it towed again to a more local shop (Glen Waverly Pannels) on monday or tuesday as they are my insurances authorised repairer. I don't have a camera although I will try to organise some pics.

Mark, I just wanted to say that I am very impressed at how calm you seem to be about the whole situation. Very mature!

Good luck again - with your level headedness with dealing with the situation, I'm sure before you know it your baby will be back :)

trucks are dip shits.. a few years back one basically decides he was going to use 2 lanes to turn right when i was next to him :)

Hope it works out ok for you. Usually they try and deny everything - they're assholes.

Exactly the same thing happened to me last year. The Bogan ran me right of the road! I think it's because of all the drugs they take! :spew:

well they do have a reputation of popping pills of all sorts!

Tanx Ronin well I can be quite an understanding person and I am soft at times

I apporached his truck and ripped open his door like a mad man although once I let it all out and he apologised and admitted fault I said sorry for going off my nut!!!

Although anyone would do the same if their life was in danger. I know my baby will be back better than ever with fresh paint ;) Its the inconvenience thats a killer!

Although luckily my Grandfather is lending me his 85 Merc 190E to drive for a few months.

take it easy all

P.S i will get some pics a.s.a.p

I keep a cheap digital camera in my glove box in case of things like this and I've had to use it before so take it from me it's handy! My GF was in an accident and get this, the insurnace company claimed she moved the car all by her self into the midle of a traffic island and she's no He-Man and the car wasn't going after the smash. The way I figure it is I'm more worried about my car being broken into than the camera any way so it's not a worry in the glove box.

    • Is the panel filter one that is oiled? Have you ever cleaned or touched the AFM?
    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
