what boost level is the limit that you should go before requiring forgies?

does this also taking into account how many revs the engine is going to do.

trying to draw up a budget for my engine rebuild and want to make it bullet proof but on a budget.

the particular form of induction i am hoping to use is good for 20 psi max, 1,000 cfm of flow and up to 680hp.

its gonna be $$$ everywhere i look, i then need to look at injectors what to get there, bigger fuel pump and on and on.

it will be fun though, and i wanna go on the dyno next year at MAS!

slap a set of arias pistons with your GTR rods.

If you want, when im done i'll send you a estimate costing of everything based on what ive just had done to mine.

yours sounds similar

R31Nismoid, I'd be interested in that aswell if possible. I'm another one on the same path :P

Hi Phat Mr30,

Theres no set limit where you will require forged pistons as a good tune will keep a motor intact until the power is to great for the rods.

If your looking at making over 300Kw at the wheels then you will also need to be changing the rods to forged items.

As for the headgaskets I have run myn at 22 psi for over a year and had no problems completley standard motor once again its the tune that plays a huge part..

The RB26 rods are stronger then 25's and The arias pistons are great for your application and cheap

any particular reason for this?... i know it is a good idea...but do u know of the limits of a standard rb25 rod?.... do u know of someone possibly that spat one?...im interested in y u say this as it is ~$1500 extra especially if ur not going to be needing it? :(

HI Nv033,

There’s no real way of saying what’s the limit of a standard RB25 because it depends on the driving conditions. Obviously excessive RPM all the time and high power outputs is going to cause an issue. I’m making just over 320rwkw and I’m not really keen to lean on the motor anymore with the standard rods that’s a personnel thing I don’t want to be buying a new block and rebuilding my motor just yet. If your willing to stretch it to the point of blowing and then purchasing the new rods and block that’s your decision. I know Martin Donnan has had a lot of experience with RB25's and he says anything over 300rwkw is pushing it as Steve-sst just said though he has not seen any problems at this power level except a rod bolt and I agree with going the ARP bolts. But I think everybody would agree that much over 320rwkw the 25's days are limited in standard form.

Personally I would decide what power output your looking for and what you want to use the car for occasional drag or drifting ? If its over the 320rwkw that you want then change to RB26 rods. Let me tell you the difference between 290- 320rwkw is not really noticeable on the road because you will still be sliding all over it. :D

So it’s your decision

WOW! Thats sweet 9000 ? And it was still pulling all the way ?

thats very impressive..

my factory RB25det rods looked in perfect condition when we pulled the motor down ... it was making 330rwkw and had a redline of 9000rpm which I used quite frequently, I've heard only good things about the venolia pistons

I got venolia pistons in my RB25 and have had no problems..

I got a rebuild kit from hi octane racing for just under 4k with venolia forged pistons, forged conrods, new nissan engine gasket kit, tomei head gasket..

I then added tomei adjustable exhaust cam, ARP rod bolts and head stud bolts..

Can someone tell me the part number for the ARP rod bolts to use ??

If there is a difference between GTS-t rod - bolts and GTR rod - bolt, please advise.

Thanks in advance.

SR20 ARP bots are the same for RB series motors, They will work with GTS-T rods and GTR Rods. The only problem is they come in a pack of 4 so you have 2 bolts left over.

    • Ha ha ha, that's fair mate! We have the crackhead dogs now. Mainly because the missus wants the crazy dogs while she still has the energy and capacity to be able to keep up with them! Ha ha our current two are both Working GSD, there brothers and sisters (from the same litters) are in Police, Corrective Services, and I believe one did end up in defence force too. They're wild and fun, yet right now, both curled up asleep on the lounge room floor while we watch some TV. Mal is very likely the next dog (unless I get my couch potato guardian dog 😛 )   What are your Kitties names? Are you planning some house work, like those high kitty shelves, built in scratching post, and some cat passages from one room to another room?
    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
