skidkid
G'day Happymeal, I have just bought a 98' stagea that has a leaking front shock and sounds like they are bottom out. It rides bumps in the road like a pogo stick. It has been lowered about 30mm in the front and 20mm in the back, on black HKS coils. The shocks are pedders so I found out what is in it and I was told r32 gtr. They are 16mm shorter on extension, 6mm shorter compressed and the stroke is 20mm shorter, than r33 gtr. That conflicts with what I have read on these suspension pages, saying we should use r33 gtr. Did you sort out what model shock you needed? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/53079-stagea-suspension/page/11/#findComment-1793377 Share on other sites

Sydneykid
Sydneykid, Have you got a set of Bilsteins left for a 98' stagea? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep, I think there is 1 or 2 sets left at Bilstein. PM me for details. cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/53079-stagea-suspension/page/11/#findComment-1811928 Share on other sites
AlexCim
For anyone that slides around in the wet, the suspension kit is a MUST. Before the car has pretty crappy weight transfer and i was opposite locking a lot. From lock to lock to lock to lock. Now the baby just slides soooo smooth. I can hold bigger, longer, more angle slides with much much less stress. Good work! -FUZZY-
Hmmm ... sounds like l need one then. After today's little sliding event l won't be doing again til it is slammed with decent sway bars & bushs. Thing really does handle like a boat!!! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/53079-stagea-suspension/page/11/#findComment-1856323 Share on other sites
AMS
My car handles bloody fantastically! Had a few WRX drivers take it for a spin, they said it would keep up with them through the twisties. Thats gotta be saying something Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/53079-stagea-suspension/page/11/#findComment-1856380 Share on other sites

AlexCim
I cant really get it to slide unless i am doing a uturn. Stock suspension i found was not too bad through twities, it was the brakes that let me down. Need more power, or to disable the front wheels if i want to start making entries. Techo
Hey Guy's after receiving my stagea i found out it had aftermarket suspension. can anyone tell me about GAB Sports coilovers? I know the fronts have 4 dampening adjustments in the top, dunno about the back. I know the fronts have 4 dampening adjustments in the top, dunno about the back. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't know much about GAB's for Skylines. I have replaced a few in Hondas though. Very harsh, big spring rates, twin tube shock design so small piston area etc. In summary, a fairly basic, low cost, Jap coil over. See how they feel for you, they will accept lower spring rates, that does improve the ride and handling a little. cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/53079-stagea-suspension/page/11/#findComment-1869640 Share on other sites

-FUZZY-
ok, just need to know if l'm right here. I can use: fronts - R33 GTR shocks rears - R33 GTST shocks on the stagea right?? I have a set of springs l want to put in, but don't want to do it using stock shocks. Or is there another option rather than the bilstein's ... something around the 100-125 a shock area?? atm l can't justify spending anymore than about $500 on it all, my finance's just won't stretch the far unfortunately. AlexCim
You are correct, though, AFAIK the bilsteins were valved differently for our stageas, opposed to valving being inside for R33 rear ends (lighter) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/53079-stagea-suspension/page/11/#findComment-1971490 Share on other sites
Spammeoff
A lowering question, pretty much aimed at SydneyKid, but happy to hear from anyone(!). Your method of lowering via latheing more circlip grooves down the strut body, can this be done when using the standard Stagea shocks? Or is that option only available if you upgrade to Bilstein or similiar? Would naturally like new shocks, but still paying car off, so low cost mods only for me at the moment. Thanks. AlexCim
from my experiance, the shock body of the stock shock is too thin to make grooves. Also the stock shock is welded lower spring seat.
