I remember one time that i inspected an R32 GTR at USS in saitama, after coming to the conclusion that the vehicle had

A.a noisey oil and water pump

B.Rust bubbles and water leaking in the boot, not to mention the damp smell

C.excessive corosion on ALL nuts and bolts.

D.Interior was very worn

E.Paint was knackered(and thats a technical term :P)

Now i have restored vehicles and repaired almost anything so i have an idea on what can be serviced, repaired or rectified....but I refused to even considering sending this vehicle to a customer......the vehicle then ended up on someones website not mentioning any of this....infact it stated what a wonderful car it was.....some poor guy was waiting his car and this "thing"wouldve turned up.....what a joke.....

Thank you ylwgtr2, this is what I'm talking about.

A 89 GTR with un-believably low km,s probably is!!!!! if this vehicle was the gen article it would have history and be sold into the Jay domestic market for big "coin"

And Geoff is a top bloke , I think he should run for P.M, he has carisma, style, honesty and heaps of cred!!!!. He dresses well and has impecable table manners he is also a fit and if i may say a "good looking bloke" His knowledge of ALL things imported vehicle related is stagering!!!! he is a saint in the make believe world of forum "junkies"............

P.S I was considering marketing a line of Geoff merchandise, you know t-shirts and caps ect.... should sell a million, may even make enough to buy one of these 30.000KM 15 year old , never raced, owned by a nun GT,Rs.........

Go for IT!!!!!!!

Ta

regan: actually the car is a 95 model mate.

Sorry "Dude" refreing to vehicle 89 GTR" !!!!! a 1995 with under 30.000Km would be acurate!!!!!!!!!! Q. Do any vehicles entering Aust have the speedo,s altered or is that just a myth???? Thinking of buying one ,but want below30Km genuine, but would need a "Stat Dec" from supplier and a full inspection at this end to confirm. Can i get refunded if the vehicle is proved to be "wound back" as VDO instuments Aust are now offering this service, they will strip ,the odo and put it under some special light to confirm, I have contacted them and they have told me that there method is 100% and the certificates they issue will hold up in court. Can you recommend any good importer,s who would be OK with this???

Any advice welcome.

Hi Zactor,

Yes Geoff at Status is a TOP guy, will send details. I have him currently on the look-out for a sub 30.000km GTR ,

VDO charge around $500 and they will say NO it hasnt been tampered with or YES we found more fingerprints in the dash than on a public toilet.

It is used on high end exotic cars mainly, they use a special process to look for finger prints as when they are made the manufacturer wears gloves.

Hit your importer up for what they think and if they will even let you do it.

Hey Driftt,

Yes thats what they told me too,

I am a bit suprised that some of these brokers are not offering this service or at the very least ,linking up to the VDO site ? NOTE*** They did tell me that they are unable to say how many km the vehicle has travelled , only that it had been tampered with. This service would be a great "selling point" if I were purchasing a vehicle i had not seen and only trusting somebodys quick look-over!!! and opinion of condition and KM .

Hey regan,

Do any importers/retailers/Brokers Garantee in writting the KM on vehicles they sell/ find ?????

If you do your home work it isnt to hard to pick up a R33 for 1.3/1.5 FOB, it is the price's they can be bought for.

And yes we have bought them for that price.

Yes, I can buy them for that price - I know! But 24000kms - ha. Mate if this was genuine the car would not sell for 1.5my.

No offence to Geoff either, he is only copying down what he has been told. He hasnt inspected the car himself.

I buy my cars from auction when I am at the auction. Its the only sure way.

I wouldn't touch that thing with a ten foot pole. Yeah its a GTR  I love them and all, but that thing has had the crap thrashed out of it (I can be wrong so no need for flaming).

What makes think this is : Look at the engine bay, that car has been under intense heat, causing paint and different colour patches on the head, etc.

For it only doing 24,000 i think the person must have been driving around at 8000RPM all the time

Here we go, another expert :D

At 1.3 to 1.5 I would expect 60/80,000 but a clean car and I wouldnt trust 90% of these so called experts in Japan to buy a GTR for myself or one of my mates.

What the speedo says on a car that is just started to check oil pressure means nothing, no body can say the klm's are 100% true unless they have personaly owned it from new in Japan or it is regulary serviced from new and all documents from service's and inspections are included, even then you would have to be game to state 100% that the klm's are true.

It is a second hand car so think about it we are dealing with car sales men in another country, we dont trust somebody down the road so why would you trust these people.

Well said DRIFTT..

This thread isnt intended to flame prestige in anyway, its merley just another standout example of jap cars coming in with false kms..

My GTST came in with 35,500kms on it!!! - 1993 model!!!!!!!

I laughed at the guy, but the car was still clean and ran nicely..

A trained monkey can buy you a car from stock posted up at sites like www.japanautodirect.com/ and these guys even advertise in Unique Cars so its no secret.

Look at this link, that set of roller doors are in a lot of photos that you see on emails that are spamed out.

agreed

Well no more experts want to make a comment, you have to agee now that cars like this have a high chance of being wound back, as I was told today "a 9 year old kid can cut and paste off a site in Japan and charge $1,000 for sending you the email".

Buying a $6,000 180 is a lot different to $30,000 GTR.

What's the definition of an expert......as to it being wound back, you'd have to admit it's also possible the buyer got a good buy and couldn't care less - only he/she will know in the end.

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
