Ok,

I've got an Auto Gts-t

Sometimes when cruising along and i want a sudden burst of power, i get a minor kick upto about 80 and then the car seems to plateau abit and not push really that hard... even with the boost guage reading full boost.

This is really getting annoying because i like my power on tap and at the moment it doesnt seem to be flowing too well.

So, what do you guys do when driving your autos and want some sudden kick? Do u press the overdrive button to turn it off? How do u drive the autos for maximum power/performance? *Edit* Or do you manually shift it up thru the gears?

Either i cant drive an auto properly *gasp* or there might be something wrong with my car =(

Just another thing, why does my car perform better when the engine has just been started and performance appears to drop after the engine warms up... this little quirk is really buggin me... possible hot air induction the problem?

Anyway, thanks for your input guys~!

if you have been stopping and starting, and you notice the car gets sluggish, its nothing to worry about, it is the intercooler getting and staying hot, causing the intake temp. to rise and your car to become a bit sluggish. also if you have an un-partitioned pod filter it would make things worse.

about the sudden kick issue.. when i want to have a bit of fun in an auto (ie. when driving my parents car) i just leave it in 1st or second gear :D

I don't have an auto - sports cars shouldn't have autos, IMO - but when I do drive an auto, it gets driven like a manual, ie select the right gear for the current situation; so at red light, select 1st gear; turning corner, shift back to 2nd; etc.

I have an auto GTST and i have noticed all of the same things you have, im not too sure if putting it into 1st or 2nd damages the engine, but it sounds good! I was in the country a while ago and i was driving it at about 140kph and it dropped a gear and just flew and i didnt do anything to cause it, i have to admit it was a bit of a rush, so im not too worried!

are you sure over drive is off when it drags at 80? if its on, it likes to cruise at 80 in mine. irks me as it should cruise 100km like a normal car.

leave the thing in drive, and be sensible. last thing you want is for the auto to make decisions while you are playing about.

if ya going to do stupid shit, leave it in 1st, and wear any consequences, fuel ecconomy/tyres etc.

make sure snow isnt on etc.

If I remember rightly the auto ecu has a bit of learning capacity. If you drive around like a toad, it will shift gears like a toad. It learns that you like to drive slowly, gently and softly so it changes up gears early and doesn't hold the rpm. It takes a bit of a thrash for a few minutes for it to unlearn. I also understand that Power mode turns off the learning and stops the slowly, gently and softly.

Hope that helps:cheers:

Yes I have buttons.

Was just thinking the 34 ecu may have a learning mode/power mode thing like the 33 has.

But thinking about it I guess you don't need it with tiptronic.

Is there any difference power wise letting the tranny shift auto vs tiptronic? Other than the obvious you can rev it out further in tiptronic.

I dono how the box is with the GTS25t but I wouldn't shift gears manually unless the box is designed to be driven like a manualised box and has a shift kit.

If you wanna get speed out of it etc learn how it behaves and adjust for that (ie. being a driver).

Kitten_89:

Im sure glad my car isnt the only one performing like this :P

I noticed that while cruising, pressing the Overdrive button off will cause the car to drop to 3rd and pick up fairly well :P

I guess i sorted that little problem out...

SydneyKid:

I always leave it in Power mode (unless its wet) so i guess the ecu's learned shift habits really wouldnt be the problem.

Now for that crappy stock cooler...

    • I thought I'd come back and add something I JUST learned. A Toyota LandCruiser with a 1HZ, mates perfectly with a bottle of Nulon brake fluid. As in, it perfectly screws in. Great make shift funnel when you cut the bottom of it off. This may work for your Corolla.   Unfortunately, tipping a 10L drum is much harder than a 4 to 6L bottle, and they no longer include the easy pour tap which was just perfection to use previously.
    • Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
