hey guyz im just asking a question on behalf of my mate, he has a auto 1995 r33 with a fmic and he is wanting to make more power out of it with the usual mods exhaust, fuel pump etc but he was wondering how strong the auto box is? stronger then a manual? and if anyone on here has a auto making some power how much and are they reliable?thanx ;)

my lines auto and pullin 208.9rwkw and like my number plates suggest it gets kicked in the guts every day

the only things that are wrong with mine are

coilpacks

ignitor coil

starter motor

alternator

oxygen sensor

(((((Think it was struck by lightning))))) jokin just a lemon

but except for the coilpacks and ignitor coil these are pretty auto unrelated problems

that will be fixed on tuesday

i am also curious about the spool up in snow

i usually rev it upto about 5000rpm in nutrual the slam it into first

but only in the wet or when racing and only cause i can get a replacement gearbox for free

My auto is running strong at 200rwkw.

For serious questions about whats possible and how it should be done, ring MV Automatics in Adelaide. They added a trans cooler and shift kit to my auto and gave me the impression they were good for close to 300rwkw. There are mods you can do if you are running an auto with over 300rwkw.

Did your car come with a transcooler? or did you just upgrade to a bigger one?

What did the shift kit contain btw?

Lukits01 - yes my car came with a cooler, but I had a bigger on installed. (like the standard intercooler but on the drivers side)

I am not sure what the shift kit contained as it was purchased and installed by MV automatics. Shifts are now a lot tighter when under acceleration, and the tyres chirp during gear changes.

yea i have found that a big trans cooler makes the world of diffrence my R32 did not have one it just cooled through the radiator piss poor. My R33 all ready has one but it's so small i will be changing it out next week i will be expecting the same change

Push the snow button put food on the brake and stall it up - wheels wont spin because its in second gear and when your ready to take off press power and let go of the brake at the same time time and you get some interesting launch's :D usually wheel spins off the mark dont do it too much cos the clutch packs dont like it (As i found out)

I put a 5 speed in it after it blew up and never looked back.. even though im having troubles now as the Pedal box broke under the clutch cos of sydney traffic and a heavy clutch.

But yeah cars i was just beating before in the auto - I was smashing them in the 5 speed - remember that auto dif ratio's are 4.39:1 where manual is 4.11:1 so you will be quicker off the mark then the 5 speed released skylines.

A good auto will still change gears faster than a manual, and will consistently do it at the correct RPM. Giver a choice and all things being equal the auto should always beat a manual.

NB - I am assuming the manual has an upgraded clutch and the auto has had a shift kit, and that both cars have similar power.

Changed automatic fluid today, car feels alot smoother and a little faster :)

it took me awhile cos i took the transmission cooler off and gave a full degrease, flush and replaced all the rubber hoses.

I removed the in pipe from the cooler and attached a length of hose, then turned car on and watched it spray out :(

Fluid was horrible! When i check it every now and then with the dipstick its been a perfect pink color, but once it was out in a bucket it turned out to be a brown color (not because of the color of the bucket :( )

I managed to drain 4L on the dot, going to redrain again next week.

Used castrol transmax z $59 per 4L :kick:

    • roof rail delete used to be a thing, they were made locally for a while too
    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps  
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car. 
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
