discopotato03
Do the Iron Mask cars all suffer from poor low beams ? I put +50 H4's in mine and the improvement was minimal . I should really remove the glass lenses to see if the reflector chrome plating is dirty or stuffed/corroded . Have any of you had this problem and found a fix ? Are new light units available ? I've also refited the modified struts with the HDT Bilsteins and adjustable camber tops , anyone after some DR30 specific short Tokiko front inserts (suit lowered car) in Sydney ? discopotato03
I think I need the filler bit that fits between the bonnet and bumper , so I can cut the ends off and fit MR30 headlights . I doubt by the sound of things much can be achieved by changing globes . Anyone got a spare filler peice ? Cheers A . discopotato03
Zapata they were part of a kit that came on the car so unknown mileage . Will be out of Syd for a couple of days so will measure on Thursday . It also had adjustable GAB's on the rear which I think I still have . How does $250 sound for the set ? BensDR30
My DR30 lights are great - have you guys checked the aim? My old MR30 lights were pretty good too & I thought that the DR would be worse, but I can't say that it is. Adam_RSX
Mine need relays, the light coming off them is yellow even though the globes are super whites, needs more juice I think. The MR30 lights were good Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/55347-rsx-headlights/#findComment-1085508 Share on other sites

boj01
Mine are pretty good on low beam and excellent on high beam. But I don't have a Tekamon front. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/55347-rsx-headlights/#findComment-1096486 Share on other sites
DR30RS
My lights are good. You may find volt drop is your problem.Crusty old alternators and wiring often leave the lights with incorrect power supply.Go see you local auto sparky and ask for a volt drop test on your lights,a 2 minute job. Adam_RSX is on to it! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/55347-rsx-headlights/#findComment-1096634 Share on other sites
Adam_RSX
Are the alternators on the FJ's the same as any other alternators? Ie something easier to find cheaply second hand? BensDR30
No, not that I know of. I managed to find an alt with the same body, but had to swap over the cooling fan & pulley. I don't know what this alt was from. If yours needs rebuilding I recommend Hampstead Auto Electrical on Muller Rd. They'll actually bother to get it re-wound if it needs it, whereas most places will just tell you it's knackered & buy a new one - even if it is only the diode pack. DR30RS
Im not sure of direct replacements, but if you can make a Bosch alt fit as they are cheap, common and reliable. the alt may be aok, usually wiring/harness connectors are the cause of volt drop.A heavy wire(9mm) from the B+ terminal of the alt to the positive terminal of the battery is a good start. Boof
I drove my car the other sunday night for first time in over 18 months and i didn't have drama's with the lights, i've got a magna as a daily driver and i have to say that the lights were just as good as the magna... As for alternators, apparently the drama's with the standard dr one's is, being internally regulated they can't keep up, yes there is a bosch alternator that does fit, Josh has swapped to one i don't know which one it is, but i know there is some wiring that has to be changed going to it but apart from that is a direct fit Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/55347-rsx-headlights/#findComment-1099840 Share on other sites
BensDR30
Lets try & find out which model Bosch it is - we're all going to need new alt's eventually.... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/55347-rsx-headlights/#findComment-1099897 Share on other sites
Adam_RSX
Yeah, good idea I never liked the Tekamon bonnet before, but now that I've taken the MR30 one off and refitted the Tekamon bonnet, it actually looks ok.... discopotato03
FJ alternators wasy . Aust spec Bluebirds (910 Ser 1,2) were fitted with Bosch alternators . Mine had the longer stator and rotor for 80a output . I also had the higher volt (14.7) integral regulator . Parts for these earlier alternators are getting thin on the ground , particularly the high output reg mine is an Ingrams , but they can be made to fit . The chief drama is the bulb check relay systems on Aust spec cars. The alt on mine refused to kick in and charge when started unless the engine got to 1300/1400rpm . Stay with the std Hitachi , better quality and reliability . Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/55347-rsx-headlights/#findComment-1101344 Share on other sites
