Just a quick question - are slotted rotors worth having?

I have slotted rotors at the moment, but I am replacing my front brakes with R33 GTSt brakes

I can get new standard rotors for around $100ea, or slotted DBA 4000 for $260ea

Either way I will be using Racebrake RB74 pads, which I am told, Racebrakes don't reccomend using them with slotted rotors?

Cheers, Chris

I always use slotted rotors, they clean up the pads, stop the little balls from rolling around under the pads and reducing the CoF. I have yet to find a set of drilled rotors that can handle the punishment though.:D

Was it Race Brakes that told you about the RB74s...cause it goes against what they did to my brakes, bigger slotted rotors with RB74s...and they have never skipped a beat:)

About to give Comp 9s a run to see how they compare,

I am going from what a mate was told, as he got some pads off them, but from memory they said that they will work just as well with normal rotors, but I think I will go slotted anyhow, I will chase up a few prices on the DBA 4000's, if anyone knows of/or can get me them at a good price, please let me know :D

i used either Winmax Sport pads or Endless NA-R pads depending on what tyres i was on, on std R32 GT-R discs with R32 GT-R calipers. Then I added Endless/ZEAL Straight6 slotted rotors to my brake setup. There was a marked improvement in pedal feel, stopping distance and also resistance to fade when i added the slotted brake discs, especially on trackdays. would definitely recommend slotted discs to an enthusiast.

Although the RBA slotted rotors are a lot cheaper, with my full set of slotted fronts and plain rears coming in at $560. I use the RB74's and they are a good pad on the track with no fade yet with the backing shims removed and MOTUL DOT5.1 fluid. They are down to about 3mm now and are in need of replacement as they are getting very hard to control easily (not much pressure form slowing to locking).

    • Why are you so adamant on going M12? Why not follow Brad (GTSBoy) suggestion. You're talking moving from a 1/8" size, to a 1/2" effectively. 4 times bigger. Why skip the commonly available sizes in between? The bigger you go, the more likely you are to strip the threads out at a later date, as guaranteed, someone will put a huge spanner on the M12 and really tighten it up, and you're only in thin wall, so not a lot of threads to engage!
    • Hi. Yeah thanks. Car is already at tuners and it staying there to resolve "many" issues they do not like. So it is in a good hands. Getting a good tune on that Nistune ECU too so the car would be good. Just needs a little tune up and love.
    • Probably gonna remove manifold and turbo. I’m not sure if I can get M12 x 1.5 air tight. Could use high temp Loctite 246 or something similar, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s just best to remove everything again and weld an 1/8NPT on there instead.
    • Yeah, saw the ratios, not impressed. Would like the punch I have in the first gears now. With those ratios it won't be the same.  Also want the h pattern gearing, or at least a quiet gear set that don't need to come apart for service each year. Looks like the only "reasonable" way Is a 8hp70 transmission, but where is the fun in that🤷‍♂️
