2) EMISSIONS, PERFORMANCE and SAFETY -- 15 years and older vehicles are not required to meet current emissions and safety requirements. Whether valid or not, DOTARS are arguing that allowing the continued import of older vehicles under current arrangements will be detrimental to the average age as well as emissions and safety standards of the Australian vehicle fleet.

Thats complete bullshit.

Cars brought in under the 15 year rule must comply with emissions and safety standards to be eligible for road registration.

Really?? I thought that cars over 15yo could be bought in regardless of emission standards. I have brought in over 20 cars in the last two years and nothing has come up about that.

Yes, the cars have to be engineered, which means they must meet basic safety standards and emissions/noise requirements.

So your 18 years old and you have imported 20 cars? Id love to know how you get them road registered

If you imported 20 cars in 2 years I dont know why this took so long and it will honestly do no good as everybody in the industry know it is decided,

And even Tamworth need the cars engineered, if they dont have a cat and are blowing smoke they will be knocked back, they will ask you to do a IM240 Test.

CSV imports, maybe you should take this thread to general automotive discussion, as well as every other jap car and import forum that you can think of so that everybody knows about it (if you haven't already done so already), also when does the petition get submitted?

As far as I can tell your petition is almost a word-for-word copy of info that was published on the Prestige Motorsport web site in January this year. The regulation impact statement mentioned has been considered and more recent info indicates that a decision has already been made by DOTARS...it's just a question of an announcement being made.

I commend your effort, but I strongly suspect the 15yo rule as we know it has left the building (or will have as of 1/1/2005).

Jan 1st would make sense for an announcement.. Its been talked about for nearly 6 months that it would be nothing allowed after 1/1/05.. but nothing firm has been announced.

I think its a little late with all this petition business (it was all done 6 months ago), and with a parliamentary majority there isn't much chance. Government can do what they like.

In regards to my importing 20 cars, I have clients which imports through me and they are the ones who register it not me... as to when the petition gets submitted? whenever we get enough signatures. Also, if you guys could post the link up in the forums around the place that would be much apreciated.

    • Did you pay with a credit card? I'd be putting a charge back through then finding a new sparky to sort it out.
    • If you mean the alarm immobiliser; theyre internal to the alarm itself which makes that difficult; I couldnt even see where he put it; its not in the same place as last time; but with all black wiring it might be very challenging to trace  I had someone turn the key for me as I know it only primes for a couple of seconds As my post above; I am getting no voltage to the pump at all; but I am testing continuity of the power line (SB) from the pump plug to the relay fine. As well as the negative from the pump plug to a 12V constant.    Yeah; he blammed the no start on a bad battery; said I needed to get a new battery and it'll start. Turns out the battery drained because the tail lights had been on for half the day during the install (the rubber cushion on the brake switch gave out while he was testing it as I have a picture of the car from that morning with the tail lights off..i've replaced that). The battery was turning over the engine just fine for a long time; but got low since lights were draining it so it was too low to test a start after he finished. I bought a new one on his advice...$250 wasted. My original battery charged up just fine and is healthy.    It was running perfectly fine when I messed up the old alarm (programmed out the remotes). He couldnt start it after removing the old alarm; my assumption is that when he unhooked it; he didnt bridge the circuit back when trying to start it. Its always been perfectly fine. The ECU swap and pump were 2 years ago. It's never missed a beat in that time.
    • This is a big issue for me without the diff. I just have zero drive from the passenger side when drivers side has no traction. Bec's parents place has a crazy steep driveway with odd camber and I have never been able to get up. My bro-in-law's 130i with an (unknown brand) LSD gets up fine as does their dad's Hiace. My car stays at the bottom. We have other odd camber roads around here as we're elevated a bit and if it's raining I can get totally stuck around some hairpins.
    • Yeah, I am super excited for this.
    • Was the car running before he touched the car?
