hey !

just bought a t3/t4 turbo

just wondering with the bolt up of this turbo, as im goin to do this myself

and havent done this b4

is there any other things i have to worry about

oil lines etc

and with being able to have internal or external wastegate

which one would be most suitable?

i was thinkin of goin external,

being able to have a custom manifold, more flow and wateva

what max boost could i run

i have stock engine, goin to get a front mount and split dump pipe

done b4 i put it on

is there any good sites relating this too an r33 s1 ?

thanks for any help on this, be much appreciated

baz

i suggest you get do some extensive research into this before you do any of this yourself as youve never done it before. it takes more than just bolting it on to make it run safe and efficient. Depending on whether the turbo itself already has an internal wastegate or not. if it has not got an internal then you will obviously need to go for an external which means a modified manifold will be needed. also depending on the flange size on your turbo whether the standard manifold can be used or not. The standard sized flange is a t3 flange but dont quote me. piping, exhaust, boost, injectors, management, wastegate are just some of the things you will need to look into. upgrading a turbo usually means modifying oil and coolant lines aswell.

thanks for the reply, and i guess i wont be doin this as soon as i thought

i'll do intercooler and dump first off, also will have to check out prices for custom manifolds

and a wastegates,

and someone that will be able to do all the lines and whateva.

what power output will, or should be able to come from this

say if i ran 14psi, stock engine, 3 1/4 exhaust, pod

considering i will have custom mani, external wastegate and split dump

the turbo is a stage 3 hybrid t3/t4 wet floating ball bearing

brand new !!

thanks for ya help ryan!

out of interest how much was the hybrid turbo?

What are they like?

I just put a Hybrid FMIC on my R33 and it looks tuff and lets me up the boost quite safely. Im happy with it and have noticed a difference in it.

Are the turbos they make good as well?

Do some reasearch and find out weather the new dump pipe will suit your needs. There is no use getting this one and having to get a new one for the t4 turbs.

If the turbo needs an external wastegate then you will need a proper exhaust manifold to house the turbo and external wastegate and a new dump pipe anyway, that will have your wastegate plumbed in.

More than likely you are going to need a new exh manifold anyway you look at it.

With the steel wheels on in you can run good boost.

What version of this turbo did you buy? What was the hp rating of it?Was it an external (ex) or internal (int) gate???

A wastegate that vents to the atmosphere on a road registered car is a defectabled one.

I dont know how to install one of these turbos. But try to contact the person that you bought it from and see if they know.

Basicallly all you need for the install is turbo, dump, water and oil lines braided, because i dont think stockie items will line back up.And a new inlet pipe made from aluminium or mild steel.

If the turbos exh housing has a t3 flange then it will bolt back up to the standard exh manifold.A T3 flange is what all rb25det's have.

FYI:The turbo will only support internal gate on it's own or external gate on it's own not both. The stock turbo in the pic is internal gate.If u need an external gate then you will have to plumb in the external wastegate from the manifold. Most go for a completely new manifold that allows for the wastegate.

But some go for a spacer in between the exh manifold and turbo exh with a pipe plumbed from the spacer from the wastegate.Meh.

Here is a pic of the stock turbo and it's 6 stud dump pipe flange pattern. not good for a hybrid t3/t4 turbo to use for a stock dump.Have to get a custom one made:)

    • Been ages since I did anything on the s15 but got some time and motivation over the weekend. Brakes are now fitted with fresh seals, hardware and pads. Bolted up with the alpha omega brackets, just waiting on 2 fittings and sensors to Bleed them. With that done moved onto the fuel system. The injectors have been cleaned ,flow tested, new filters and orings.  Made a bracket to hold the surge tank with surge tank and pumps mounted then plumbed. Roll-over valve done too. Need to make a new loom and add individual relays for it all. Had new flange welded on inlet manifold for a bosch 74mm DBW throttle body.  Coolant bypass hose done with some fittings welded on now then soda blasted. Waiting on sensors to arrive to install and pwr for radiator and intercooler still. Getting to point of buying an ECU and looking like may be going something else as link doesn't have enough inputs.   Work has been awesome with first trip to Perth and now on the way to Darwin looking for a good result there.
    • It always makes me laugh when I hear things like this, when I was a young bloke I bought a old Mk1 Escort, one of my mates said "how do you expect to have a girlfriend in a old car like this", my reply was "if she doesn't like the car she can walk, and if she is more interested in the car I drive than me she can fark off" This is how you can tell if you have a good woman, they care not about things like the cars you drive or what it sounds like Pandering to crazy obsessed women who care more about how they look in a car than the person driving it is something that I've always kept away from Not saying my Mrs isn't crazy at times, but it's typically me being a idiot that incites the crazy 🤪
    • But where's the fun in that, for me it isn't about the money, I have money, and I have time, I enjoy the process of things, the picking parts, the "adventure" of it all, and for the bits I can do myself, the actual work is enjoyable, well, varying levels on enjoyment on hard to reach things like that farking thermostat I just changed
