Just got back from St.kilda beach.

fkn rats, got fined like a mad dog, EPA i coped like 2 weeks ago at Williamstown beach, and today coped canary at St.Kilda.

THe cops gave me a canary, and listed down on the sheet My number plates for not being able to be seen, coz they are int the left of my bumper bar and not in the centre.

The canary is for "not meeting the standards"

and on top of that i coped another fine for them plates being the left hand side.

Can they list it on the canary sheet and also issue you another fine of $107 for the same defect?

coz thaz what they done to me

should i write a complain letter?

any suggestions?

what about alfa romeos or the diahatsus? their plates are offseted to the right.

good point...

but i would assume that they want it in the standard position...

but in the end who knows if they want to get u they will..

but i have always wondered about number plate placement..

in Victoria.. not having the plates in the center mean the revenue cameras can't catch you.. of course it would be illegal down there.. lol.

You are very lucky they didn't whack the "number plates obscured" as that is 3 points and a $200 fine I believe in VIC these days. Live in a police state, get hassled..

It doesnt matter about the cameras since they get your rear rego plate number. I got my plate on the left and know its illegal after bieng told by many people. Since it is facing away from incoming traffic, police are not able to see your rego plate. It is legal for them to be in the centre and the right hand side, but not on the left.

I had my front plate on the right hand side, but moved it back to the center after a friendly pig asked me for some money too! Yes it is illegal. Your plates have to be in a 'the standard' position where they were originally when the car was produced. If you have after market bars then you have to somehow place the plates where they were originally.

Dont know what its like for other states, but in ACT the rule specifically says "Has to be mounted on the front of the vehicle, parralell with the front axle and no more than 1.5 metres off the ground" meaning it can go anywhere on the front of the car as long as its not on an angle.

Been pulled over many a times by cops who have asked about this, told them, and theyve let me off. Check the rules.

You sure about that? I thought the camera shoots at the back of your car, so it does not blind you with the flash. Also I dont think you even need a plate on the front (what i have heard) many ferrari's and some other exotic cars dont have them?

From Vicroads:

The law requires that number plates are displayed on a vehicle and that the number on the plate is visible from a distance of 20 metres.

absolutely nothing about the numberplate needing to be in any particular point on the car, just visible from 20 metres.

About the Alfa 147 etc...

This is a case of Alfa submitting their car for ADR approval and they got a permit to have an offset plate.

Did you?

I'm not siding with them... if your plate is set in the same manner as a 147, you should be fine.

But you don't have a piece of ADR paper that says you can.

This is a bureacracy we live in, people!

Allready done mate, its a $107 bux fine and 3points, thaz why im complaining, plus they listed it on the Canary sheet as well, its like get fu*ckd for 1 thing two times.

Well this cops said some shit like its has to be visable at a 45 Degree angle, from both sides of the vehicle.

then he took photos of my car, car at "his 45 degree angle".

i asked him what his maths is like coz that wasnt looking like a 45 degree angle to me, where he took the photos from.

and the way he positioned the camara, on the photos you couldnt see the number plate numbers, but by the naked eye you could see it, the rat turnd the camara a bit an a sharp angle.

and gave me that fine of $107 bux and 3 points, plus listed it on the canary for Not meeting the standards.

does anyone have a good piece of "document", a complain letter that would help me get out of this.

anyone with a Bachalors Degree in Bullshitting?

    • Update 2: Today I'm f**king pissed. Some of you probably saw my thread that I opened shortly after joining this forum, "urgently need expert/experienced opinion", in which I discussed the possibility of a porous RB26 engine block which I also found hard to believe. Currently both turbos are out since the shitty braided line that was installed by whoever fitted the GT28 turbos leaked oil onto the exhaust. Today while working on the cam covers to put new gaskets and half moons in, I cleaned the side of the engine block with brake cleaner. Some time later I saw that it was still glistening with oil or coolant so I dried that off. But it was wet again shortly after. Verdict: I'm royally screwed. What you can see here (hopefully, despite shit resolution), circled in red, is a crack above the turbo oil feed. Extent is a few cm long and basically goes from #3 cylinder wall to #4 cylinder wall. It slowly lets coolant through, even without any pressure behind it. I am absolutely dumbfounded as to how this crack even formed, especially since it isn't along the cylinder as it usually is but rather a horizontal crack. Probably a few cm in length. Not sure on how to deal with this issue right now. Most likely, the only true fix is a new engine block, and even a relatively well done temporary fix requires at least a full engine teardown. Neither of those really fit my timetable right now, the car has been in my buddy's garage long enough as it is. I'm open to suggestions, but I'll be looking into ordering a new 05U block soon so I have one ready for the coming year, or whenever the current block inevitably fails fully. (Most likely once the crack reaches one of the frost plugs) I think it'd be a waste of money and time to rebuild the engine with this block. Oh and I found a rust hole on the side pocket of the trunk, which someone covered up with sealant goop, a piece of number plate and bodywork filler. Fun times. So far for every issue we fix we just find a new one that is arguably worse.
    • I have not found this no. I put one back on a couple days ago with no drama. I agree they are tight, but no need to remove anything.
    • That is gates blue racing belt
    • Anyone found gates blue racing to be extremely tight/ almost impossible to install without moving the exhaust gear
