boostn32 are you goin to be running standard gearbox in your new setup. If not what are you going to be running? Thanks

i have 2 rb20 boxes that need new syncros on 2nd, not worth fixing so will be doing the 25 box conversion once i have broken both 20 boxes lol

ok LOL i dont think you would have too much of a problem breaking them at the power your after. true?

Well i got my engine pulled out today they will open the old fella up within the week. Im also in the hunt for 300rwk out of the rb20 in my s13. Any of use guys know how strong the CA. diff is ;) Maybe i might be better off asking that question at ns.com

You wont break the diff, if you have the standard center i recomend replacing it with a mech 2 way.

makes sure you get the block modified for extra oilling on the main bearings and use RB26 bearings, i used ACL Race series, they have 4 oil holes instead of 1 they will help the crank survive 8500 rpm+

Is that a straight fit? What engine modifactions exactly, , do you recommend for oilling improvement? Do you also use a n1 oil pump or other aftermarket?

yes the bearings fit as the mains on all rb cranks are the same as in diameter, i forgot to take pics of the modified block, was to keen to put it together. but what the machine shop dose is machine a grove about 2-3 mm deep and wide where the main bearings sit so there is like a resevour of oil under the bearing and since there are 4 oil holes in the RB26 ACL race bearings they allow more oil on the crank.

I just used a R32 RB26 oil pump. i will be putting a shim under the pressure releif spring so i get about another psi or so of oil pressure.

heres a good link for anyone wanting to find there compression ratio

hmmm well i had my car tuned yesterday... and was very disapointing..

its a rb20det with..

3 inch exh

k&n pod

Q45 afm

walbro 255 pump

599cc injectors

modded plenum

modded cams

lightly ported n polished head

ss exh manifold

turbo turbonetics 60-1 t3/t4

44mm tial waste gate

turbonetics godzilla bov

fmic

and apexi pfc + boost controller

and it made 320hp at the wheels on 16psi :P

does anyone know why its making so little power??

Cheers

i had mates s13 on the dyno the other day and it made very disappointing performance also, tuner put it down to the walbro fuel pump, apparently they're not soo great and he says some work better than others but a lot of them can't flow much past 260ish rwhp

this is for the 450hp model

mate will be upgrading to a bosch 044 and getting some cams soon

you have any pics of your engine bay???

I think thats pretty good power i have alot of the same mods and a few others and u made the same power as mine and i was running 20psi boost

Cheers Peter

couldn't say if that's the problem dude, but tuner reckons that's the problem on his car

i was also told sr's dont' like making power after 260rwhp without cams..

glad i got me an rb20 then:)

just wish i had his turbo and other bolt ons hehe

dude,

320rwhp = 238rwkw. that ain't exactly low power for 16psi. that by my standardsis a good effort.

how does it feel when u drive it on the street?

if possible, show us your power graph/AFRs.

yeah i gotta agree, its just a t3/t4 hybrid thats probably most i've seen from one on rb20, mate had about 300 on his and still managed a 12.55 in heavyish r31

example i used being my mates car is a hks 2835r on 1 bar

only 255rwhp

i plan on beating that using my neo r34 turbo on my redtop 20 lol

Its not shabby power, bit looking at the compressor map of the 60-1 it should maek more power.

Any dyno sheets? What did the tuner say about the performance...i would maybe consider putting a std manifold back on. If the flow distribution is worse then the std manifold, wouldnt that mean a particular cylinder may lean out before the others meaning the end of all the fun>???

I dont know...but 238rwkws is pretty damn good for only 16psi...whats it like to drive?

320rwhp isnt too bad at all for 16psi in the scheme of things. I have a Garrett T3/T4 and when tuned at 16psi made 235rwkw. I wasnt dissapointed, I was actually very very happy. Why are you dissapointed? What power did you think/told it would make?

For comparison, when boost was upped to 21psi power climbed to 285rwkw from a turbo factory fitted to a car in 1987 so you could even make more.

For 285 on an RB20 you'd think it was asleep untill over 5,000rpm but it makes the 21 at 4100rpm in 4th on the dyno.

As mentioned by above peoples:

Put up some dyno graphs, hopefully with power vs boost.

"ss exh manifold" what type? got a pic?

Hows it drive?

    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
