Places not to leave your skylines...

Recommended Posts

I just saw something like this in the NSW section, thought it might be a good idea for us Vics to make list of the spots you wanna avoid, post your personal expriences where you or someone you know had their skylines/cars stolen or damaged...this might help not only us Vics, but some of the interstate people whom of late have been coming to Vic for work or fun...this can also be searched later on if not made sticky and perhaps save people a lot of grief...

So here i go...some of the places i avoid like the clap are Chadstone s/c(especially coles car park, most of you know why), Monash Clayton where a mates turbo Datsun 510(which i had just rebuilt  ) perished never to be seen again and another mates sr20 powered bluebird got broken into...

another hot spot is the Vic market which is notorious for car thefts, as well as crown car park although i must admit guilt for sometimes parking there for convinience...

oh by the way i am not sure if this was done before, if so i will make it disappear.. :ufo:

Anywhere you can't keep your eyes on it...

i try to never leave mine at the shops, i try to go to smaller shops so i can be within range for my pager to go off if the alarm is triggered...

Don't park it at any train station full stop - all cars get targetted there.

Is wilsons the car park on latrobe/russel street?!

If it is my window looks out onto the car park

I always see drug deals going on in the door ways, shitloads of needles everywhere in the alley and on the road :P

My mates R1 had 2 Needles sticking in his seat lol

Places i wouldnt want to park:

Craple street - Refused to drive their every saturday because of b'ball at the grammar, its chaos their - paid off aswell, mates car got backed into (hit n run)

Supermarket Carparks - old grannies and runaway shopping trolleys

Chadstone shopping centre - a few r33's been jakked from here, some even during the day. Stay away.

Parkville/flemington/kensington - keep your car away from here, junkies will jack ur stereo in broad daylight

any thing within the vacinity of a commision flat complex is definately a no-no.

You guys might wanna note that the thieves may be part of the skyline community too? Or that they peruse this website just like the cops :P

Friend's S15 got stolen in his secure key card apt in the city. Camera footage showed the car being driven away but till this day, nothing's been found.

My house x 2 also.

Brunswick street (f**king hippies/bums whatever) peace and love my ass... lets steal that dudes mobile and wallet and smash his window so we can get high tonight.

Crown Casino... shit security and don't want to know about it also.

lets steal that dudes mobile and wallet.

If you're silly enough to leave your wallet and your phone in the car, then you need to accept part of the blame. :D

It's common sense not to leave valuables in plain sight.

    • They are under bucket shims. Tomei provides a test shim kit and then any measurement of shim required.
    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something?
