ooooh thread revival! B)

I'm curious why so many people are nominating Dandenong as a bad place to leave a car.

Which part of Dandenong?

It's a rather large suburb.

Is this in relation to shopping centre car parks, or the suburb in general?

I've been parking in and around the shopping centre for 10+ years now, and have never had a scratch, or a trolley ding.... unlike Parkmore, where no matter how far I park away from other cars, they see my car by itself and think it's lonely, and come and park close enough to hit me. :D

Perhaps Lilydale should be added to the list too?

old thread - but good info - didnt realise chadstone and monash were really bad - well looks like my car will be at home unless i go for drives!

Last year august, at monash clayton, after comming from a lecture i noticed my keys wudn open the driver side door....on close inspection my door lock had been busted and the door had been scrached all around....luckily they did not get in....must have been disturbed by someone passing by..... :P

I'd agree with Monash Clayton... I was installing a stereo/alarm/central locking for a friend one day, they had classes, meh - I'll do it in the car park... For six hours I'm hanging out of a car, stereo & speakers in hand, wiring coming everywhere from under the dash...

Did anyone even ask what I was doing? No...

I'd list Fountain Gate as worse than Dandy (although anyone who parks in Dandy Plaza (Central, whatever it's called these days) really needs to have a look at themselves.

Oh, Dandy Sth. is pretty bad... My neighbour across the road from me went to a house about three doors down to borrow a screwdriver... Then proceeded to break into his own brother's friend's car to steal the stereo, out the front of his own house?!? (Same dude was laughing as he was being chased down the street by another dude with an axe, but that's another story...)

Add preston/Heidleberg onto the list.

I had my sterio stolen about a year ago in the NMIT carpark in Heidleberg. Lucky is was in my everyday car (VH commodore). Dodgy area. I wouldn't leave my skyline there. Avoid Epping as well. It's great having 2 cars for that reason. Don't need to stress about leaving it.

Broady/Thommo/Dandy are pretty bad, mates and I have all had bad experiences there.

When it comes to systems etc, you can't do much (besides the detachable face head units, but still, they can steal your sub/amp etc.)

But when it comes to car theft, all of you should get those detachable steering wheels (well not that actual steering wheel, the bit that connects the steering wheel to the car). Only way some1 can steal your car, is if they tow it. IMO it would be more effective than simply having an alarm. It's great for those of you that go to uni/work and have to leave your car for hours at a time!

I recall a Mr Bean episode...

awwww f**k. i work at chadstone! there are some quite conspicuous cars that are parked from 9-5 there all the time. eg quite a heavily modified s13 in teh same spot every day. they give me some comfort.

With so many unsafe places to park is it advisable to have a cheap second car to go to shops etc. I am lucky I have secure parking at work and have double remote garage at home so car safe most of time.

Was just thinking about this.

anywhere near a commission flat is right on the money for getting broken into. Apart from that, anyone heard of $hit happening at monash CAULFIELD? Cause this kid *points to self* is gonna start taking the train if thats the case!

well, my car is gonna be locked up from now on (specially when i go to work or to uni) - going to take my mums car to work (then after she gets back from her holidays gonna get her to drop me off), and gonna walk to the train station after she gets back. Though tis just a car - its too much of a risk for me. Working 6 years, handling shitty customers at myer - I think i'd lose it if some punk comes and wrecks my car.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
    • Also wanted to say, my new spark plugs are blackened looks like it's very rich. I have splitfire coilpacks but stock coilpack loom and ignitor. I tried directly grounding the ignitor ground to body as well.
