If your going ahead asking all these questions, i dont think you suit a turbo skyline.

re-think all this before buying such a powerfull car moving from a toyota echo.

Petar.

when i brought my new car - New car at age 19????

Uni Student's cant afford new cars... - So you claim your a student.

Why ask mum for some money, you only earn $100~ odd per week.

You know what.. i never knew new car's can get bargained for down that much, nor a notch.

I AM DEFINATLY GOING TO LOVE YOUR THREADS TILL YOU GET BANNED FOR LYING LIKE A SCHOOL KID!

You stupid fool, you dont have to post jibberish so we think your cooll.. we already know your 13~~~

before u guys yell ya head off at me for no reason, please understand the fact that im not tryin to post rubbish just so to piss ppl off. i was simply askin a simple question. why is that wrong ? u guys are the skyline expert, u know ya skyline stuff, i dont. soo i need info.

i do realise new cars and old cars are bargined different, soo since im not new in this area i'd thought ill ask u guys.

oh, about the 26990 price tag, thats what the salesman quoted me at the beginning with orc and ready to drive.

ohh doridori why is ir that hard to believe ? even though i have a new car doesnt mean i paid for all of it. i only contrubuted 9k for the car and the rest are paid off by my parents. i wouldnt even consider it as my own car, since im sharing it with mum. why would u get pissed at me for askin ?

yeh u may look at 140 dollars per week as nothin, since u probably earn like 500+. but understand this, i live at home so i have minimum cash input towards things. which = saving

ive been working since i was 15, saved at least 70% of it till now. soo i do know what i have on hand.

There are so many factors...

When bargaining with a used car dealer, how much discount is available depends on how overpriced the car is - if you go to the Parramatta road thieves, a $20K car is priced at $29K. So if you get it down to $25K, you've still payed $5K over the odds. My limited experience with Northshore Prestige indicated their cars are fairly priced, so there won't be multi thousand dollar discounts.

Desperate private sellers are the ones for big discounts...

Z

it depends on the person selling you the car as well as the condition of the car

person A maybe more negotiable than person B, its common sense, however, person A's car might be dodgy...

if you are tight for money, i would suggest looking at buying privately

also, i hope that you have actually checked out the price of insurance and general maintenance costs?

If I was a dealer, I would know what I paid for that car, and how much I need to sell it for to pay the rent and the phone bill.

If some smart ass punk comes into my yard and offers me less than it cost me I would tell him to piss off and go play somewhere else.

If it was a private sale, you might do a lot better in beating someone down if they are desperate. But a professional hard nosed car salesman in a car yard, I don't think so.

Why would you want to buy from a dealership anyway? Private has so many more advantages because it cuts out the money hungry middle man.

Private sold cars are cheaper. You get to speak to the previous owner so you'll be able to tell just how the car was treated. They are negotiable on an already low price (in comparison to dealers).

I say do your research and find out what similar cars are selling for so you know what the cars real value is

many will take haggling on a car as an insult, especially if they have a good idea of the real value of their car... If you go in *expecting* to bargain down, or can only afford it if its bargained down I don't think you really should be looking at the car IMHO. But sure, if you can, worth a try.

Best way to buy a skyline is off an overseas student who's going back to asia, and never really paid for the car in the first place - so its not their money. They'll often only have a few weeks to sell it and will take a well below market value price.

I had some idiot wasting my time with my Pulsar GTIR that I recently sold. He took it for the test drive, ummed and aah'd.. said he'd call back.. and didnt. So I call the guy up and he goes 'man i only want to pay 14k for it' (the car was the cheapest gtir on the market for sale at 16.5)

I yelled at him and asked him why he bothered wasting my time and did not tell me that this was "all he could afford" before he strapped my car around the block.

Bloody idiots.

buying from a dealer has some advantages, you get some sort of warranty, and you can sue if the car turns out to be stolen or has serious hidden mechanical problems. You are also protected somewhat by the trade practices act.

If you buy it from some dork that lives in a low rent flat, he may not be around in a few weeks. You are totally on your own. What you buy is what you get, and that might turn out real bad.

If you go to see a car for private sale and you like it, but think it is overpriced, say to the seller "I have two more similar cars to inspect today, and both sellers are asking less" make a firm offer and leave your phone number, do not argue. He might call you back later after thinking about it for a while, and accept your terms if they are reasonable.

I never haggle but make a reasonable fair offer and then leave.

Dealers rip you off man. and the dodgy warranty they give you, you pay like extra money, and when crunchtime comes, they dont cover shit, only if a piston flys out of ya engine thats what they told me ones.

go private, that the best deals u get, that way u cut out the middle man.

or just ring me, ill sell ya my car cheap, stock r33 gtst Price drop from $44K down to $38 what a bargain, get that .lol.

You know what.. i never knew new car's can get bargained for down that much, nor a notch.

I dont understand why you have to be an asshole about it, he did not claim he had a 7.2 second R34 GTR, before he learned to walk, it was a simple genuine question.

Just because this is mostly an anonymous forum does not give you a permit to be a toss. Live and let live.

My opinion on the barganing thing:

Dealer:bargan till you think they are going to cry, then give them your name and number and ask them to call you when they have a better offer. It really works, a sale is better than no sale.

Private: basically the same thing, just try to be more friendly about it.

Car dealers have huge markups but even when you bargan with all your skills it is unlikely that you will get a better deal than if you wait for a private sale to come up.

Interesting range of opinions in this thread.

Personally, I have got between 15 and 3% off the sticker price on the cars I have bought, new and second hand. Only one exception where I paid full sticker price and that was on a new car with a waiting list.

Really it depends what the dealer expects to sell it for......if it is already reduced for a quick sale don't expect much off. Remember they know how much they paid for the car, and they have an excellent idea of what it is really worth.

kk thnx ppl. i have my eyes on a car rite now. asoon as it comes near $15000, im gonna go and check it out. if not, im gonna have to settle for a 1994 or 1995 model with full GTR style bodykit. i dont like the S1 styling.

btw this is for a manual 1996 series 2 GTS25 non turbo coupe. its current price is $18990.

yep im sure i want a N/A for now. coz of insurance (700 difference). im planning to drive it for 3yrs and get a ER34 turbo when my NCB reaches 50-60%.

yeh, 19k is alot for a non turbo. thats why im waiting for northshore to drop the price before ill consider it. they have a 93model for sale. but 93 is abit too old.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
    • Bloody apprentices! 🙄
    • Not sure yet.  Was considering speedtek because it was rated to 800hp, but when I did some research about him I don't think I will go for that🤣 So maybe giken gear set, but I'm afraid it won't be strong enough🙄
