I try to be the first person to actually answer this thread,

A mate of mine had a very nicly done up VL turbo with a top of the line Mongoose alarm system, from memory it cost up around $600.

We parked the car at the Aspley hypermarket (in Briz), we walked inside and I realised I had forgotten my wallet. We walk back and got about 50m from the car and saw a guy sitting in the front seat fiddling around under the steering column, (no alarm going off).

He only see us running torwards him about 10m away, so we grabed him and "asked", "what the Fu(k are you doing", this was the funny bit, it was a fair bit of a struggle as you may imagine, he was trying his best to avoid being beaten to death, he managed to wimper "I was just looking!"

He managed to get away (we did not chase, don't ask why), because he had a big overcoat on, he twisted out of my mates grip, as he only had hold of the overcoat. What we managed to see as he got away (as the coat was half pulled of him) was all the tools he had under the coat in special pockets, just like in the movies with a dude in new york selling watches. He was really well set up, obviously professional.

So if they really want your car they can get it. I still think Mongoose are a good brand, I have a similar model in my R33.

Before you ask, we were certian we set the alarm, I remember thinking as he set it, "I wish I had remote central locking". I had a shitty NA VL at the time. We still don't know how he got around it, we assumed he was hotwiring it or sorting out the immobliser as we got there.

My mate was very lucky, so was the theif.

do you remember how many point immobiliser???

ive been told that a good 3 point immobiliser would take round 45mins to get around if someone knew what they were doing

I've got the 3 point autowatch alarm in mine too, I also got the turbo run on/turbo timer bit as an option as well. This is the second autowatch alarm I've had and it is a good system, but it still comes down to the guy installing it and how good a job he does.

i got myself a keypay with my alarm system it is awsome (just like the wrx) got to type in the code , if u try and start the car it will just start for about 2seconds then die. also i can turn off the alarm and the keypay will still be on, so u cant steal the car.

also got a pantic feature which it alarms it still if ur driving and shut the car down

some things i do is disconnect the fuse for ignition (pink fuse in the boot) and or disconnect fuel pump fuse and replace it with a blown one. this fuel pump fuse is small so you can take it in your wallet with you. i also ensure that streering lock is on when i leave the car, have full alarm and use club lock and pedal lock.

OK so make sure you don't get a Mongoose is the moral of the story

I wouldn't agree with that. This is exactly the point I was trying to make before: installation is the most critical part of an alarm setup. That's why this thread is rather pointless... if the car is stolen, is it because of a dud alarm or a dud install?

If you want ultimate theft protection, get a Brant Nemisis. I think they have lost something like two or three cars in the past year, all when the owners gave out the PIN code. But just because the cars weren't physically stolen doesn't mean they weren't raped for parts or damaged...

Can't remember, but like I said it was a top end (Australian standard) mongoose alarm, so it had at least a 2 point immobiliser.

Anyone else had their car stolen / broken into with a secuerty ststem installed?

    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch.
