Because Renault are f#ckwits & they can suck on my nuts...
Yeh, they get the benefit of a larger target audience with a family car which means they get more money & we get less performance cars.  Its all about family cars these days, & all that means is that its all about making the most profit for some prick owner & shareholders.

Mate, I think you need to settle down and learn a thing or two about the car business.

For starters, the regulatory environment has significantly changed in the last few years. Emission legislation (both in terms of noise and pollution) is becoming an increasingly important factor, particularly since markets such as California (the biggest market of them all; one no car maker can ignore) is leading the charge. The fact that the 350Z is fitted with four cats tells you something.

Secondly, you can bitch and moan about Nissan selling out, but their options were either to stop producing the low volume, low profit cars and which were contributing to loosing vast sums of money, or to stop making cars full stop. Would you prefer no Nissans at all?

Personally I think Renaults' takeover was inspired.

I don't know why people are so critical. Nissan is selling a boatload of cars, and is finally making some serious money. The Micra has been a large success, the 350Z has gotten fantastic reviews, the Maxima finally doesn't look like a fridge, the X-trail leads its class. In the JDM the Cube has been a runaway success. Few companies are enjoying the level of success Nissan is at the moment.

Most of the complaints seem to surround the V35 Skyline. You can argue all you like about polluting the breed, but Nissan needed a medium-large coupe/sedan to sit above the 350Z, and to do it on a budget and the cheapest way to do that is component sharing, hence the similarities between the V35 and 350Z: Nissan already had a proven platform, an emissions compliant engine (unlike the RBs), and an emerging styling trend.

Now that they have the resources -- read: the money they are making that you so bemoan -- they can finally address the low volume, high cost, low profit sector. Without Renault's involvement, no such car would be forthcoming IMHO.

I think they look good

Everyone complains they dropped the turbo

Most 32,33, & 34 turbo skylines get modified anyway

Bigger turbo's, intercoolers, computers exhaust etc

What does that cost?

So why not twin turbo the v35

cost 10-15 grand

There is a few kits avail now.

I have spent over 10 grand on my 33gtst tring to get more power.

There is also a turbo v25 engine avaliable in other Nissan makes

Would not be too hard to put one in the V35 or 350z.

i agree, its good that nissan is doing well, but they're just not what they used to be

but most of the people on this site aren't looking for family econo-boxes

Fellas.... Nissan got into the sh*t because of bad business practices during the 'Bubble Economy' years!

What did they do during the 'Bubble' era??? They made fookin expensively designed turbo sports cars that led their respective classes and sold them for cheap!!! They designed about 28 variations of every model!!! They plugged HUGE amounts of capital into 'insta-reputation' racing teams!!! (read: they thought that no one in Europe took them seriously until they won Le Mans, WRC, Group A etc)...

I could go on...

What we see now is Nissan trying to make amends for the excesses of the '80s and early '90s. Think of the 'good times' Australian government under Bob Hawke... then a recession under Keating... get it?

I think for all they've gone through, Nissan are doing as good as can be humanly expected right now. God I can't stand Carlos Ghosn, but I admit he's pretty good at beancounting.

that's because we're all driving second hand sports sedans and coupes.... do you wanna have a guess what the base model of your car is used as in japan... that's right, a family econo-box. Or try and explain why an R34 was available with an RB20E single cam N/A engine from the factory?

As for Nissans losing the turbo, the turbo was an option, the Skyline has ALWAYS had an N/A variant of all its cars.

but thats what i'm saying, its like nissan has lost its spirited performance car line-up or 'soul' as someone else said

for the fast car driver, there's nothing in the nissan range anymore

its true the base of my car is an econobox, but then there used to always be a sports model, for people that wanted it, now what do we have? the 350z and non turbo skylines :uhh:

the 350z IS the coupe of the nissan range. As for non turbo skylines, I think people just have to come to grips with the fact that the Skyline has reverted to what it was originally concepted to be, a slightly better than average family sedan (not exactly econobox with a V6 engine). The current JGTC car from Nissan is the 350z, so any race homologation models will be made in the 350z range, not the skyline range.

As Rezz said, instead of having the homologation model and then the regular family econobox models, Nissan splashed out and made many many variants inbetween for the R31 thru to R34. Current economy and business models don't support that sorta extravagance.

I think too many Nissan 'newbies' are confusing 'Nissans Sports Heritage' with 'Turbo'...

Of curse the turbo has played a big part in Nissans previous 20 years, but if you look at the whole picture, turbos are just a *part* of it... alot of you guys are writing off Nissan altogether just because there aren't any turbos in their current line-up.

The Fairlady Z is a good car without a turbo! Ok, the V35 Coupe doesn't get the stamp of approval styling wise, but 280ps N/A V6? Sounds good to me...

Sound's good to me to Rezz. Unless i was hearing things, on a BMI DVD there was a 450ps N/A 350z. So i find the VQ a every intersting engine.

ok but the reason why i got into nissans was because of, their performance range from mid 80's to late 90's, (300zx, silvia, skyline, cefiro, gtir, and more) and i realise they couldn't keep going that way,

but i don't about their new cars, they just don't seem very impressive

*Sigh*.

Look, they have gone through a period of necessary consolidation. Now they are making money again and can afford to start exploring niche markets again.

Wait and see what the next few product revisions bring.

BTW, its interesting to note that Renault has a number of oddball products, so I don't think they will be the brake everyone accusses them of being.

Does anyone know if the G35 Infinity/Skyline Coupes can be imported here.

Any RAWS importers available?

Cheers

Chris

They are here in AUS and I have seen them 2 Door and 4 Door, evidence is the hold up at the moment nothing else except price on the 2 doors.

They are about 800,000 to 1,000,000 for a good base sedan for 1,500,000 you can pick the 350 GT-8 (204 kw motor) and the Coupe is 2,500,000 plus, once the coupe hits 2,000,000 you will see more.

A lot of American companys and HKS have built some nice Super Charger kits which seems to be the way to go.

They will become popular with a retail price starting at $28,000 for the 250 on more of a mini Maxima base.

And they do need a body kit I will say that, the US based G35 Infinity have a lot of nice bits.

They are here I walk pass one once a week, evidence is the hold up at the moment nothing else except price on the 2 doors.

Driftt...Where in Perth??? I'm interested in having a look as all reports say the coupe is better looking in the metal than photos. That's alright by me as I think they look pretty hot with the right bodykit and the grille painted black.

Thanks for the thumbnails "darrinspencer"

For me all Skylines are great cars but one must move on with technology.

    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
    • When I said "wiring diagram", I meant the car's wiring diagram. You need to understand how and when 12V appears on certain wires/terminals, when 0V is allowed to appear on certain wires/terminals (which is the difference between supply side switching, and earth side switching), for the way that the car is supposed to work without the immobiliser. Then you start looking for those voltages in the appropriate places at the appropriate times (ie, relay terminals, ECU terminals, fuel pump terminals, at different ignition switch positions, and at times such as "immediately after switching to ON" and "say, 5-10s after switching to ON". You will find that you are not getting what you need when and where you need it, and because you understand what you need and when, from working through the wiring diagram, you can then likely work out why you're not getting it. And that will lead you to the mess that has been made of the associated wires around the immobiliser. But seriously, there is no way that we will be able to find or lead you to the fault from here. You will have to do it at the car, because it will be something f**ked up, and there are a near infinite number of ways for it to be f**ked up. The wiring diagram will give you wire colours and pin numbers and so you can do continuity testing and voltage/time probing and start to work out what is right and what is wrong. I can only close my eyes and imagine a rat's nest of wiring under the dash. You can actually see and touch it.
    • So I found this: https://www.efihardware.com/temperature-sensor-voltage-calculator I didn't know what the pullup resistor is. So I thought if I used my table of known values I could estimate it by putting a value into the pullup resistor, and this should line up with the voltages I had measured. Eventually I got this table out of it by using 210ohms as the pullup resistor. 180C 0.232V - Predicted 175C 0.254V - Predicted 170C 0.278V - Predicted 165C 0.305V - Predicted 160C 0.336V - Predicted 155C 0.369V - Predicted 150C 0.407V - Predicted 145C 0.448V - Predicted 140C 0.494V - Predicted 135C 0.545V - Predicted 130C 0.603V - Predicted 125C 0.668V - Predicted 120C 0.740V - Predicted 115C 0.817V - Predicted 110C 0.914V - Predicted 105C 1.023V - Predicted 100C 1.15V 90C 1.42V - Predicted 85C 1.59V 80C 1.74V 75C 1.94V 70C 2.10V 65C 2.33V 60C 2.56V 58C 2.68V 57C 2.70V 56C 2.74V 55C 2.78V 54C 2.80V 50C 2.98V 49C 3.06V 47C 3.18V 45C 3.23V 43C 3.36V 40C 3.51V 37C 3.67V 35C 3.75V 30C 4.00V As before, the formula in HPTuners is here: https://www.hptuners.com/documentation/files/VCM-Scanner/Content/vcm_scanner/defining_a_transform.htm?Highlight=defining a transform Specifically: In my case I used 50C and 150C, given the sensor is supposedly for that. Input 1 = 2.98V Output 1 = 50C Input 2 = 0.407V Output 2 = 150C (0.407-2.98) / (150-50) -2.573/100 = -0.02573 2.98/-0.02573 + 47.045 = 50 So the corresponding formula should be: (Input / -0.02573) + 47.045 = Output.   If someone can confirm my math it'd be great. Supposedly you can pick any two pairs of the data to make this formula.
    • Well this shows me the fuel pump relay is inside the base of the drivers A Pillar, and goes into the main power wire, and it connects to the ignition. The alarm is.... in the base of the drivers A Pillar. The issue is that I'm not getting 12v to the pump at ignition which tells me that relay isn't being triggered. AVS told me the immobiliser should be open until the ignition is active. So once ignition is active, the immobiliser relay should be telling that fuel pump relay to close which completes the circuit. But I'm not getting voltage at the relay in the rear triggered by the ECU, which leaves me back at the same assumption that that relay was never connected into the immobiliser. This is what I'm trying to verify, that my assumption is the most likely scenario and I'll go back to the alarm tech yet again that he needs to fix his work.      Here is the alarms wiring diagram, so my assumption is IM3A, IM3B, or both, aren't connected or improper. But this is all sealed up, with black wiring, and loomed
