Rezz's Japan Forum Q + A Thread

Recommended Posts

Speaking of taboo subjects, I have another question (hope we aren't overloading you Rezz :D).

Are there any common 'western' behaviours or customs (or similar) that are particularly offensive to Japanese people and/or are frowned upon?

Obviously I realise there is probably generational issues at work as well, but if you could generalise a bit about "mainstream Japan" :D

Lucien.

From my experience there's fair bit of hashish around usually from the Middle East. Have you learnt much about the やくざ while youve been there?

I haven't had any 1st hand experience with Yakuza... but I've been told many a story about them. In fact, Kobe (where I used to live) is home to the biggest Yakuza clan in Japan - the Yamaguchi-Gumi. They literally 'run' things in Kobe from top level business dealings to low level intimidation.

Rezz, you sound a lil' scared in that last post .. :D

Anyway.. More questions from me.. Sorry.. Kinda getting used to living in Tokyo now.. Rezz just wondering.. do you do any private tuition? And if so, how about do you/did you go about getting them?

Thanks =)

Scared... me? lol

I basically found all my private students by word of mouth. I never got business cards and handed them out... I always felt that was a bit dodgy. Needless to say at any one time I only had about 6 -7 privates a week, so I had to choose whether to continue with the privates or just give up and join a school... I joined a school :D (I've met *so* many more people and had so many more offers since I joined the school I work at now).

Hmmmm, I think enthusiastic hand gestures are offensive to some Japanese, as is a too strong personality. Not being flexible and wanting thing done 'the western way' is also a major piss off... especially with our Japanese staff! Theres heaps but thats about all that spring to mind now.

well unless the club you're at gets randomly raided (which is rare - but happened to 'The Underlounge' here in Osaka just 2 months ago, multiple arrests for possesion) or you're noticebly smoking weed outside or in public view.

This actually happened at a club I was at Saturday night.. a rather large quantity of X was found inside and in a parked car down the road from the club... It is rare. I was under the impression that drugs werent really a big thing in Japan ... as in not many people were into them but as I have found out in the past 6 months its not the case..

Rezz.. Another one..

Having since seen that picture of you in that fat RX7, have you made the change to rotors? And if so, why didnt you change earlier? ;):)

Hehehe if that were my car it wouldn't be covered in stickers... although the rest of the car is just about perfect... all I can say is: www.7tuned.com , in February, read all about it and much much more from Japan. Now you why I've been quiet on here recently... :D

I did a 6 month course in basic Japanese grammar before I came,

Btw, don't believe what people say about ganja being scarce in Japan... it's who you know not what you know... I can sort anyone out with some green if they want it.

hahahhahahahhahahh

i never thought it was scarce i honestly dident know, yeah if i ever go for a holiday in japan i might have to look ya up

you look a bit fried in that lil picthere hahahaha

Hey man whats up, I love your pictures , but that site carsensor.net has so many cars! I can not translate the jap into english anywhere can you help me out? Thanks!

Thanks :D

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
