um guys... before you club the driver to death, just make sure that he isn't a 56 year old indian dude, coz that would be my dad driving my ceffy around. I sms'ed him and told him to be on the lookout for a car that looked like his with grey rims.

Bad luck dude. Can't help but think you were playing with fire by parking in the inner west with no insurance and no alarm. Glebe has one of the highest theft and break in rates in all of Sydney :rofl:

I live in Leichhardt, so I will keep my eyes peeled.

In the interest of research, and in an effort to help other people protect their cars from the same fate, I'd like to try and establish which security devices/systems were in place at the time it was stolen.

(I've been asking this question for a couple of months now, and for some reason have not yet received a single answer, which leaves me to believe that people leave their cars unlocked with the keys inside)

Please understand this has nothing to do with "you should have done this, you should have done that"..... It is simply to establish how far car theives are willing to go.

Steering lock?

Door locks?

Immobiliser/kill switch?

BFD?

I guess there is no "point of entry" information until the car (hopefully) has been recovered.

Well I can tell you what happened to mine, it was locked, they smashed the window (I found a tonnne of glass there) and then hammered the ignition barrel out (i found it on the ground the metal was broken)

3rd party property doesn't cover theft

..... it sure doesn't, but for a few extra bob he could have got fire & theft cover.

But seriously CEF 11E & this should apply to everyone else on the forum too, if your gonna drive a car that, part of the running cost is insurance. i know ill probably get flamed for this but oh well.

Your right you probably will get flamed.

Fire and theft is capped at $5000 in Vic and NSW, so by the time you claim it, pay the excess, loose your no claim and factor in the premium you've lose your NCB and got about $1000 in your hand if that. I think that's the stupidiest thing I've ever heard of.

Next, take me for example. I also own a cefiro and my car ain't insured - doesn't mean I want someone to take it does it? (which is what you're implying) and I can't actually get insurance for a cefiro. If you find me an insurance company that will insure me I'll definately consider it.

For interests sake I got a quote for a modified r32 and the premium was over $5k a year with an excess for theft being just under $3k. If I had an accident my fault with the car written off $7k. Not everyone can get insurance and in a lot of cases it doesn't make sense (unless you're a shareholder of the insurance company).

The thing that annoys me the most is you seem to think it's ok to take someone elses car. "That's what insurance is for". I say we wouldn't need insurance if these ****wits all died out.

I wouldn't agree with that. I don't think anyone has said its "OK".

However, "most of us" live in the real world and understand our cars are reasonably high theft risks and that there will always be some little sh!t wanting to steal someone else's property. If you drive a desirable car, but don't insure, don't have an alarm, and park in a very high risk area, it doesn't take a genious to work out what the end result might be. As I have already stated, Glebe has one of the highest theft and break in rates in Sydney. It also has a lot of public/government housing and a "youth problem", particularly among the local aboriginal community.

It sucks it happened -- having some take your property is just so low -- but some might say it was at least a foreseeable possibility.

Agreed in full to your post but it takes a ****wit to say it in someone's thread asking to keep an eye out for their stolen car.

My dad's ceffy is fully insured by Famous Cars insurance for $800 p/a and $1000 excess. They know what a ceffy is, as mine was the first to be insured by them, and I had to explain to them how an A32 is a maxima, but the A31 is a cefiro and so on.

ok yes insurance was going to cost me $3000 with an $1000 excess so over 3 years that more than the value of the car. it's a calculated risk.

The car was stolen from a under building carpark that cant be seen from the street. I did have an alarm but it was diconnected a week earlier. the car was locked with no other security devices.

if i get it back it will have a pitbull with sharpened teeth installed.

I want the car back and i am offering a $1000 incentive cash no questions asked reward.

Man i think i would just die in the ass if i walked down and found my line missing. I was spewwing when i found out some kids had scratched $5500 damage into it.

Best of luck, i'm pretty passive but if i see it da sh1t will hit the fan. Keep us informed

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?

    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
