RB26DETT Bottom End Rebuild

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am in need of some urgent advice. I am in the process of getting my RB26 rebuilt due to the pistons and valves decinding they would try giving eachother a kiss and finding that this union was never ment to be....

I have had the head rebuilt (new valves, guides, shims) and had the turbo internals upgaded to 360deg steel wheels (good for 27psi). The pistons looked fine from the top, but after reassembley, the compression was down to 130 on some of the cylinders. Pop in some oil and it jumps back to 190. So it looks like the rings may have cracked or worse, piston ring skirts have broken. Bore not marked at all.

Anyway, i want to replace the pistons & rings. I can get standard pistons from Nissan and rings, but i wanted to upgrade to forged pistons for std bore with good rings to handle the extra boost. New conrod bearings also required.

What is the best option at the best price to do this, and who supplies them in Australia?

Also after a sump baffle kit (Tomei or other) and Upper Oil Restrictor Kit (got a big JUN oil pump feeding my baby already) What an average price for these and where can i get them? Any other bits I've missed?

(There is a time frame and a budget to work to, but i want to get it right this time)

Thanks guys. I was looking at getting the Arias pistons. They come with rings already. Should i use these or should i go for the N1 Piston rings? Also looked at HKS but have heard that they are just re-stamped other brands. Are the Arias good bang for my buck? (pardon the pun)

Have any of you used the Upper Oil restrictor Kits? I think Tomei make 1 but 1 cant seem to find anyone who supplies them or much info.

What are the standard rods like? I will probably put ARP rod bolts in as i have heard this is a weak point. Wont be pushing much over 8000rpm.

Also, I still only have stock cams, but was wondering if adjustable cam gears would benifit me in any way. If so, what way should they be adjusted for different performance settings? New cams possibile down the track.

Car will be for sale after this is all done. I'll do a dyno run and a 1/4 mile run and post the results. Price still to be decided, but if your interested, let me know.

UPDATE:- Now getting the block bored 20tho over, Forged pistons, Sump baffle, All bottom end fully ballanced by drag & race engine builder. This will all help with better engine response.

As per my previous post, should i stay with the standard rods? are they good enough for 27psi+?
