hey guys, im really interested in a few r32's on the prestige site.. but im real concerned bout the whole importing scene. For example, there's an r32 estimated for $11,500, but how much would this cost me all up after its here in syd? I mean, up until now, i thought cars under the 15yr rule didn't need compliance LOL im so confuseeeeed! I don't know if importing is a wise decision now.. any comments much appreciated. Thanks :D

Add a few grand to get it to a reasonable state......compliance will be up to about 1500......plus servicing, paint touch ups, tyres, stuff like brake pad replacement if needed and so on.

Then you have rego to pay also.......not to mention insurance. Sometimes alot easier to buy something that is already complied.

As the website says and as RS has eluded to, after that, you'll need to allow $1400ish for the work required to make the car comply with ADR's (but not SEVS compliance, different story), then rego+CTP, say $700, then stamp duty at 3% (whatever that is, too lazy). You may need tyres. You may need engine work. You will want to have the vehicle serviced (possibly cleaned). You may also need to pay for road freight if the vehicle ships with Kiwi Car Carriers (they only deliver to Brisbane).

Add all that up. Now you have a figure which you can compare against R32's you see in the trading post. The difference (if any) will be what you are saving by taking the risk of buying a dunger and the stress/headache of messing about importing the car. If, in your opinion, you'd prefer to save the cash/be the first Australian owner/whatever, go ahead and import the car, you'll prob come out ahead. Keep in mind though, that the cheaper the vehicle (moreso the lower the median sale price of that particular model) the more savings to be had. What I'm saying is, you'll save more by importing a 1999 GTR than you would by importing an 89 S13, as the fixed costs are the same (well not exactly, but reasonably close bar import duty/GST)

The car doesn't need to be imported through a RAWS. A 15yr old car can be imported, and delivered to your house for your to muck around on, like a few blokes here are doing. If I remember rightly, a SEVS car must go to the workshop for 'real' compliance. They are two totally different things that people tend to use the same term for, which is why you feel confused.

Hmmm thanks for the help mate. I worked out the costs for a few of the r32 gts-t's.. and it seems to save 4 - 5 grand considering the mods on them.. BUT! What happens if the car gets here n the engine is on it's way out? Or a huge mechanical problem as such? There isn't some sort of insurance u can get ay? I don't think i wanna take the risk of something like this happening without the insurance.. lol

no insurance.. the insurance is paying more to buy it locally..

the jap mechanical inspections aren't meant to be much chop most of the time.

my car cost $7k to my door.. another $2k onroad.. I could sell it for $12k tomorrow..

    • You'lll likely have to make do with R33 GTR for engine/tranny stuff, and Stagea for the body. I don't know that there's even been an actual diagram seen in the wild.

    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny  
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
